Nani is too fast and too tricky for Carra to deal with (I guess a tackle last the one in March would be way to stop him as long as he doesn't pick up red card..) and Flanagan, on the other hand, is very inexperienced, still learning and not ready yet.

That said, between those 2 yes I would prefer Flanagan to Carra but we will be vulnerable unless either Kelly or GJ do become available.

I guess another alternative would be play the pair of Enrique and Aurelio but I am not sure if this would be a game to try either of them as RB.

Carragher is too slow now even by his standards. I would prefer someone young and raw with a bit of pace. Either wat Kuyt has to start on the right to provide protection.

And I agree with the posts above re false optimism. They are clearly favourites to win and quite rightly so. We have been patchy at best whilst their attack has been very strong.

Clinging onto the hope of KD motivating them or the crowd is exactly that. Clutching at straws. If KD and the crowd were so good at doing that then why don't they do it all the time? And why do so-called professional players need that to motivate them?

I’ll be very disappointed if he didn’t. Kenny was a breath of fresh air when he took over last year, giving kids a chance, playing free flowing attacking football. Some people pointed out that there was no pressure, we had nothing realistic to play for and we always finish strong in those conditions.

I disagreed and expected a similar approach from the off this year, but if Kenny overlooks Flanagan again for Skrtel and to a lesser extent Carragher, then I’ll start to worry.

Hopefully we'll not have to worry about that though and Johnson will be fit.

Everyone was **** against Sunderland and he was still nowhere near as bad as Skrtel against Spurs.

For his own development I can understand why Kenny mightn't risk him, but for the beneefit of the team I would take the chance and think Kenny would have too last year.

I know it's a risk with Flanagan but Carragher would get destroyed by Nani's pace and Skrtel was woeful against Spurs - Nani would slaughter him too.

If we played one of Carragher or Skrtel at RB then we'd be re-arranging two or possibly three places in our backline:

Carra / Skrtel --- Carra / Skrtel --- ??? --- Enrique

I'd much rather we bring in a RB to play, erm, RB. Hopefully one of Kelly or Johnson will be fit by Saturday anyway.

Every defender v Sunderland was fine apart from Flanagan who cost us the goal. He was poor at Exeter aswell.

And Kenny has taken the chance this season to. He started the season in the team but was rubbish so can see why he went for experience instead.

How do you explain the fact that they havent beaten us at Anfield for the last few years, even though they have generally been 'better than us' on those occasions too? I meant in terms of their league position, rather than 'on the day'.

If your method of 'they are better than us so hoping to beat them is clutching at straws' theory worked, then we'd all be millionaires courtesy of backing the better side to win every week.
