There is a noticable difference in both the crowd and the players for big games, this is the case at all clubs, the atmosphere will be better and the players will feel they have more to prove, they will also be motivated by really not wanting to lose to a rival.Originally posted by truefan999 View PostCarragher is too slow now even by his standards. I would prefer someone young and raw with a bit of pace. Either wat Kuyt has to start on the right to provide protection.
And I agree with the posts above re false optimism. They are clearly favourites to win and quite rightly so. We have been patchy at best whilst their attack has been very strong.
Clinging onto the hope of KD motivating them or the crowd is exactly that. Clutching at straws. If KD and the crowd were so good at doing that then why don't they do it all the time? And why do so-called professional players need that to motivate them?
The only chance we have is the fact that their GK and defence are not great by any stretch
I don't think it's a case of clutching at straws we have a decent recent record against them particularly at home, so I think we have a decent chance of beating them, and peoples comments and expectations are reflecting that. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If your method of 'they are better than us so hoping to beat them is clutching at straws' theory worked, then we'd all be millionaires courtesy of backing the better side to win every week.
I've posted a perfectly decent reply to you, without abuse and put forward a valid point.
Your reply to this (if you post one) will add to the theory of whether you are or are not a WUM.
True. And as discussed with m'learned friends Shaggy and Mr Young yesterday back when we were winning everything in sight they used to always put in a performance against us, get a result with Mark Hughes scoring a goal.
These days we always seem to perform and get stuck into the Mancs, getting a reasonable set of results recently. Sadly at the end of the season they walk away with the trophies.Modifying post.

I heard agger was back in training so he could be available. johnson might be back too but its too early to put him up against ashley young. if kelly is ok then back four should be
kelly.............carra............agger.......... enrique......
not sure whether to pack the midfield with 3 and kuyt / suarez in tandem up front. utd will score so I think were going to have to watch their fast counters maybe henderson will add more athleticism than charlie adam and hendo lucas and gerrard would be a competitive midfield.
front three of kuyt suarez and downing would cause their back four some problems.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Ahhh at last you responded to the point well done.
Apart from last year it was not always the case in the last few years that they had the best first 11. Prior to last year our first 11 was not too far from theirs. Our failings were the lack of depth and something your post and the one after has identified. We have become Man Ure of the 1980s. We are woefully inconsistent. Part of that is the lack of motivation and hunger on a regular basis. The way we occasionally play at home to Man Ure is the way we should play every week home and away. Man Ure do and that is why they win trophies when their side isn't always the best.
And our first 11 I think is weaker than it was under the peak years of Rafa. A tad better than last year (except in terms of the striker) but I think they are now much stronger than us and extra motivation etc cannot sustain us repeatedly for large gaps in quality

How come they couldnt beat Stoke then? If a massive gap in quality between the two sets of players cannot be overcome by motivation etc, why didnt the mancs batter Stoke? Or are you going to suggest that Stoke's first XI are better than ours?Originally posted by truefan999 View PostAhhh at last you responded to the point well done.

You seem to be suggesting that a home side with an inferior XI (if we go with the theory that ours is noticeably inferior to their's) cant bridge that gap on the given day and win the game. Is that what you're implying? Because it would be vastly off the mark.
And in any case, you point to previous years when our first team was closer to their's. Well you yourself point out that it wasnt the cast last season. Yet we beat them convincingly and deservedly so.
So how do you explain that then? And why is it so unlikely to happen again?
You seem to be totally dismissing the idea that we could play well and beat them deservedly, describing it as 'clutching at straws' - no genuine Liverpool fan would ever say that or feel that way.
The way we 'occasionally' play at home to Man Utd? Occasionally? We've done it for the last 3 or 4 years at Anfield. The way we occasionally play at home to Man Ure is the way we should play every week home and away. Man Ure do and that is why they win trophies when their side isn't always the best.
And for the record, no team can produce that every game, the mancs dont do it either. Your suggestion that they do, is wide of the mark.

Disagree about them being favorites or any club domestically coming to Anfield.Originally posted by truefan999 View PostCarragher is too slow now even by his standards. I would prefer someone young and raw with a bit of pace. Either wat Kuyt has to start on the right to provide protection.

It is ManU that we will be playing and that by itself is enough of motivation for our players to give more than 110%.
Granted Mancs have a very good team this year but their form lately seem to be on slight decline and we play at home with much better and deeper squad than the year ago and on that basis I feel optimistic.
It will be difficult match but those 2 factors that you so easily discounted, Kenny and the fans are the reasons why I like our chances.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
