Downing has done ok for us so far, the team is still very much in progress but you can see what we're trying to do with the flanks - creativity and pace down the left and hardwork and endeavour down the right.
8 games into the season we're in 5th currently and have a decent run of games to come where we should pick up quite a few points, I think we're about where we realistically expected to be.
It also speaks volumes we feel like it was 2 points lost against the all conquering Man Utd rather than being happy with a draw!

Why is it absurd exactly?Originally posted by JHP View PostAnd how dare someone point out that your opinion is absurd

I thought he started well, but from the Stoke game onward he has failed to impose himself on our games.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostDowning has done ok for us so far, the team is still very much in progress but you can see what we're trying to do with the flanks - creativity and pace down the left and hardwork and endeavour down the right.

As I said it's still early and it's a work in progress.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI thought he started well, but from the Stoke game onward he has failed to impose himself on our games.
Wingers especially have times where they go off the boil and this seems to be one of those times (I still think he's doing ok) I think once this team settles down a bit more we'll see more and more of him also having Gerrard back will help no end with our attacking play improving

Finally seen the highlights of the game on MOTD. To say it was the first and main game they didn't show a great deal but I suppose there really was nothing to show from the first half. Having said that, Suarez should of scored the opportunity they did show.
From the rest of what I saw, our penalty shout wasn't a penalty for me, his arm was moving down and away from the ball. Ferdinand should of gone for the foul on Adam, what a difference that might of made. As for their goal, couldn't say if it should of been a corner or not as the BBC took it upon themselves not to show any replay of it, Skrtel was to blame for me. Instead of trying to wrestle the little pea **** he should of just tried to stay with him moving about.
Overall, could of been worse as when their equaliser came through on my phone I really thought they would go on and nick it like they so often do but overall very disappointed as it is two points down compared to this fixture last season and the fact we had some damn good chances to win it.
One final thing, we really need to have a word with our stewards... which one of them let the Manure team bus on to the pitch!!

I thought Downing had a semi-decent game without standing out, but came alive in the last 10 minutes when the game opened up.
He certainly had a better game for us than Young did for them.
I was mightily impressed by Enrique, who I've always rated, and especially Kelly. On that form Johnson is really going to struggle to get back into the side.

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
