about Gerrard he'll be a distraction with just being on the pitch hopefully giving space to others.

I'd like to see Carroll get some more game time as well as he also offers added problems but not sure where he'd fit in at the moment.

suarez was very annoying because that could have been one of the best goals of the season - for me it's the one the thing he really lacks, just being clinical/deadly in front of goal - he could have had about 10 so far this season.....he did all the hard bit, wonderfully well, probably only half a dozen players in the world who could have pulled off what he did to create the space, but he just seem to rush the shot a little

I think it will come, but it needs to start quickly

I'm not too worried about our current position, we have had a difficult start, away games at Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton and Man Utd at home are all very difficult games add to that Stoke away which is always a difficult place to go to then we aren't really in a bad position. Newcastle will fall away, they have had a fairly easy run of fixtures so far. I still think it's between us, Spurs and possibly Arsenal (if they can get their act together) for 4th place.

What has always been our problem has been the inconsistency and failure to get results against the lesser teams, we dropped points at home to Sunderland, and struggled more than we should have against Wolves at home, the only one of these so called 'easier games' we won comfortably was against Bolton. These are the types of games we need to be scoring a few goals in an getting comfortable wins.

Aye, we really need to be more ruthless in front of goal. There are the odd exceptions(Downing against the Mackems and Hendo's halfie stands out) were you exclaim 'WOW, that would have been a really good goal had the player who shot scored it' but in the main we tend to waste chances that you'd expect us to put away. We might not create huge amounts of chances in a game but the ones we miss tend to be fairly clear cut.

          But Carroll will save us

Hopefully gerrard coming back into the side means we have an extra goal threat - with the opposition defenders now having to worry about gerrard as well, it may mean we find some space for someone else to get in and score.
We need a poacher. Much as i hate Hernandez, he'd have a field day in our side.

if we were to bring in another striker that would be what I'd want to see.

                Reality check here.

We were the better side on Saturday no doubt about it. If both sides put out the same team, we would win that game 9 times out 10, home or away. The bottom line is that we had a stronger first XI than them.

However, if they had Rooney and Nani in the side then the tables would turn imo. They would also have Hernandez, Berbatov and Valencia on the bench which is stronger than any of our attacking options from the bench.

So for me, it's really now a matter of bringing in outstanding individuals who can play as part of a team or can do a bit of magic themselves to really break back into the top 4.

To be fair, we've spent the money so if we lack in those areas, we're not in a position to complain about it.

On the game itself, it was more in line with how I predicted it to be; caution being the watch word. Having said that, we had by far the most clear cut chances and should have won.

Our game management remains terribly bad - seemingly no matter who is on the pitch at the minute. I know United made changes but we just let them into the game for 10 or 15 minutes after we scored which made a huge difference. Similar things have happened in other games (frequently at half times).

Broadly speaking we played very well but our weaknesses are consistent and I don't think we are developing as quickly as we might need to in order to make 4th a likelihood.

Is it realistic to expect Man Utd to not come into the game during the course of 90 minutes?

I think he is saying that changes weren't made to counter that.
                          Oh I don't know.

Saying we let them do it is a bit silly really, they're the best team in the country!! They didnt get there by having a load of crap players or giving up once they go behind, they were always going to have a little spell. We looked like we'd comfortably seen it out until slack marking from a set piece, they hardly bothered us inplay.

Also depends on what you mean - they seemed completely in control of where the game was played and we didn't seem to know how to change that. Under Rafa when we came under pressure we seemed to have a plan that involved letting them have pressure in areas they were less likely to hurt us, this weekend they seemed to take complete control of the game.

If it was a one off then it would be fair to suggest that they are just a good enough team to do that but we have let several other obviously weaker teams do it too.

Really? They only bothered us off a set piece.

Good teams often have a spell when they concede a goal, exactly like we did when we spent the last 10mins battering them.
