The problem wasnt about holding mids, it was that we simply backed off them and didnt press the ball.

I think someone in front of the back 4 would have helped with our shape and would have helped us control the centre, which we never did.

In 2010 with Rafa; We controlled the midfield with Lucas and Mascherano, but it was a big problem as it slowed everything down when it came to attacking the opposition. We had two very similar players doing exactly the same thing.

When people are suggesting another midfielder. It comes across as a Dig to Adam, rather then Gerrard or Lucas.

Gerrard was playing in front of the back four. It didnt help.

The problem is both Gerrard and Adam have a tendancy to vacate their positions. Lucas and Adam in the middle with Gerrard in his favourite and most effective position, just in front of them.

One strange thing I have noticed. Is that when we lose the ball our Wingers. Downing, Kuyt and even Saurez press high up the pitch.

The central midfielder don't. Not unless Lucas is there.

I don't really believe that was our biggest problem that season.

I don't think he is adept at it, and I was more thinking a holding mid as well as Gerrard and Adam.

Yep, we concede that space very easily.

He may not be adept at it, but he played it. The answer therefore, is to have an adept holding mid, rather than thinking we need two.

I would rather have 4231 than our current formation, and I think another mid in deep would help us get better control of games.

I'm fine generally with 4231 but there's no way we 'needed' 2 holding mids at home to norwich.

And re 4231 - what do you do with Carroll then?

I'm not personally a fan of Carroll, but I think he'd be useful off the bench.

I don't think he will, I would love him too, but I don't think he is a very good player.

Point being, he isnt going to prove you wrong by being benched.
