Thats not a sign of being prolific. If he can do that again then maybe you could argue that he is prolific. Too early. Its a scoring run.

You can only base it on the time he's played in the PL - during which, he was prolific. I dont know what 'siigns' you want, i'm not talking about signs, i'm talking about facts. Was Andy Carroll prolific during his time with NUFC, in the PL? Yes.

There's no 'minimum time period' someone has to have played, to be prolific.

1 in 2 is a good record and 11 goals in 20 games for me would count as a prolific run. But I think you would need to judge a player over a longer period before deciding if say player was as a prolific player or not...

Obviously we have bought him based on this potential (having only played a few PL games - which makes it difficult to judge if he's a prolific player or just on a good run), whether he realises this potential or not is a different matter.

You can say it's too early to say whether he will be prolific throughout his career, of course.

But if you're facing an exam question about whether he was prolific during his time at Newcastle in the top flight, and there's a yes box and a no box, clearly you're ticking yes.

Heskey. Prolific player or not? Prolific spell (s?) yes. If Carroll has a couple of runs in his time of one in two then yeah it could be argued. Prolific as a term is demeaned now though due to the nuts scoring records of Messi or Ronaldo. Subjective I suppose.

I think that people are being a little harsh on Carroll

Yes he missed a chance on Saturday that could have won us the game, but we wasted alot of chances on Saturday and no-one else is getting anything like the same amount of stick.

It's clearly a difficult time for Carroll he's not scored as many goals as we'd have liked . He's started 5 games we've won 3 or those games (Arsenal, Wolves and Everton), drawn 1 (Sunderland) and lost 1 (Spurs). Aside from those he's come on for about 10 mins against Norwich, about 15 mins against Bolton and about 30mins against Stoke. That amounts to less than 5.5 games this season, with the vast majority of the Spurs game us playing with 9 or 10 men and him being out of position. If he had another goal and his record were 2 goals from ~5.5 games rather than 1 goal from ~5.5 games you could might arge that he'd had a decent start to the season.

It's quite strange that Carroll started at Everton, scored, and has had 10 minutes since. He's not gonna get any better sitting on the bench.

Indeed. I suggested we bench Suarez and play Carroll with gerrard behind him vs Norwich. I still want to see that given a proper go because I think it would play right into Gerrard's hands. Surez looks like he could play wide if necessary. In fact I think he could be one of the best right wingers (insert joke) in the league.

whats annoyed me is he started against wolves, and probably had his most effective game this season - was involved in the play, contributed, looked lean, was unlucky not to score. He wasn't 'amazing' but he looked a lot better and there were positives

a week later he then goes and scores against everton - not as good a overall performance as the previous game vs wolves, but gets a big goal.....things slowly looking up for him

and he's not really featured since
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

It does seem odd, I can understand us taking a different approach for the Man Utd game (hence him not starting that), but I didn't understand why he only got the last 10mins against Norwich after having his two decent performances and getting a confidence boosting goal.

You start to wonder if something happened off the pitch.

I think myself that he is another Keane. We signed him but later discovered that we really don't need him. He doesn't fit into the system etc.

I didn't thought a month ago that there is any chance that we may sell him but now I'm not so sure.
