Sends out completely the wrong message if Carragher walks back into the side after two and a half games without him and two and half clean sheets. People should be picked on merit and Agger and Skrtel deserve to keep their places.

100% I'm worried that he'll waltz back into the starting 11 on the pretext of experience.

I would personally prefer to see Agger and Skrtel start, but I think Carragher will come back because it's too easy to justify:
- it's a big game
- Agger and Skrtel have only played a couple of games together
- he's had more time off than the others (due to no international involvement)

Will you seriously question his judgement if he swaps Johnson for Kelly or is it just Carra?

Johnson is the better player so there is no way Kelly will play against Chelsea. He's also had a few injuries and has just played 2 90 minutes for the U21's.

Plus Johnson played the 2 league games with Skrtel, Agger and Enrique

that squad imo had the best chance of beating chelsea, ideally you'd sub bellamy and maxi on around 60 minutes to force chelsea to adapt to something different, i'd rather start him but i think asking him to play left midfield is a bit of a stretch, hopefully downing will continue the form he showed whilst with england.

Kuyt and johnson have a good relationship down the right and Dirk is often at his best in the bigger matches, but i certainly wouldnt be disappointed to see maxi get a start that i believe he deserves.

but i think the most important selection issue is henderson in midfield over adam. we do lack pace when gerrards injured in the centre of the park and henderson is fast, also having watched a bit of england u21s over the past year i think its pretty safe to say hendersons best position is in the centre. He can also defend quite well. Imo Lucas and Henderson would compliment each other well, they both are generally short-range passers who keep the game flowing and thus are probably better at keeping possession ( even though both get stick for passing sidewards or back alot of the time) and this is where hendo needs to improve because i think he is better going forward than lucas. Simply put, Lucas is slower but a better defender but Hendo is faster and CAN become a better attacker but both share the characteristic of their games being centred around a short-passing mentality which i think will be central to the pass and move football the team ought to and hopefully will be playing.

We probably won't see this combination against chelsea or perhaps for another few months but i believe that eventually we will and that it has the potential to be one of the best midfield partnerships in the premierleague in the future. LFC

We know that AVB will play with three CM. They will totally boss the game if we don't do the same.

In every game we played two against three in the middle we have looked very very average.

Imagine Lucas and Adam against Meireles, Ramirez and Lampard.

If we go 4-4-2 we'll get spanked IMO. I'd definitely play Spearing with Lucas for this one with Gerrard (if fit) in front of them and Suarez up front.

Wouldnt mind seeing Bellamy or Maxi out wide but i just can't see it. If Gerrard is unfit i'd play Adam or Henderson instead or even Bellamy/ Maxi in a deep lying central role

They were playing a diamond in midfield last year weren't they?
Playing 5-3-2 against 4-3-3 would cause loads of problems.
If our 3 CB's mark their 3 attackers then we will be too stretched leaving holes everywhere, if they don't then we have our wing backs playing as full backs and 3 CB's marking their 1 central striker.

Chaos, 3 against 3 in midfield matches up but who picks up Cole and Bosingwa when they join in???

I would be really interested to see how Kenny would make that work

Pretty much the line up I'd go with with the exception that I'd go with 2 defensive mids so I'd start Lucas and Jay in the middle and drop Carroll as result and Skrtel over Carra.

I think it would be more justified to have Skrtel and Agger start than to have Carra back into the first 11.

Given the performance that those 2 put together thus far (no defensive errors, few clean sheets, good understanding between them, offensive threat etc.) they both imo should be ahead of Carra in the packing order atm.
