To the OP - I think todays result confirmed what many of the so called ''doom merchants'' have been saying for weeks/months - Downing, Carroll and Henderson are mediocre players who should not be starting ahead of Maxi, Bellamy and Kuyt.

Comparing us to top of the league is pointless, we were never going from 7th, 6th on a limited budget to title winners. It's a work in progress, just a shame you wont give the manager any time.

Yep. Chelsea are no longer nailed on for 3rd or even 4th. It's between us, Arsenal, Spurs and the Chavs for 3rd and 4th.

We're there or there abouts for the 3rd & 4th spots which is what we needed to be, I think we'll only get stronger as the season progresses.

No of course not. I did however expect us to closer at this stage after the investment we've made. 12 points adrift after just 12 games is quite a gulf, I expected half that really.

Realistcally we're never going to challenge unless we can get a squad together that costs no more than 10-15% less than that of City and Man Utd.
