    Thoughts on New Players

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on the new players that Rafa has brought in. I know its still early in the season and all that but here my 2 pence.

Gonzalez - Not exactley settling in is he. For me he has been disappointing. He has scored but he doesnt seem to be that amazing on the wing. I rarely see him beat his man. He did put a peach of a cross in for Crouch to score a few games back. I hope he gets better. Maybe a run of more games will improve him.

Pennant - Very disappionting - He does put the crosses in but too often they are ****e. I think he has had a few assists but generally his play has been poor. Again he doesnt seem able to beat his man with pace (which im assured he has) 7 Million! I hope he also gets better and bloody soon!

Bellamy - I like Bellers. He hasnt set the kop on fire but I sense he isnt far away. He looks good playing alongside Both Crouch and Kuyt. He is a whiney little bugger though but we all knew that when he joined. I think he is close to being back and fit but is gonna have a job shifting the partnership of C & K which I think is our best.

Paletta - TBH I havent seen enough of him to comment - I know he scored the other day - I think he has been injured - anyone got any thoughts on him?

Aurelio - Another one that I like. Good squad player that definatley offers options from set pieces as well. He has a great left foot and is great at swinging those balls in. I predict he will score an absolute blinder this season. Though of couse I prefer Riise at left back any day.

Kuyt - What can I say? He is everything that Ciise wasnt. He works hard for the team - tracking back, making runs etc. He looks like he can play with either Crouch or Bellers (and possibly God as well but I cant remember if they have) He has scored 5 goals in 7 starts. I love the way he is constantly clapping Xabi or Stevie when they play a good ball to him. He looks very much a team player and I hope he will prove to be a steal at 9 Million (that figure already looks a bargin and he has only played about 10 for us LOL)

Anyway I live in Sydney so havent seen any of them in the flesh playing so maybe my thoughts are a bit wonky - Happy for anyone to put them right.

Not convinced that Pennant, Bellamy & Gonzales are good enough but lets give them till the end of the season to see how they improve.
Palleta has not had enough games to be judged but looks promising.
Aurelio for me is the worst one, he's too lightweight, can't defend and has no positional sense. He tackle well sometimes that's about it.
On the other hand, Kuyt is top class signing, I've been saying that for 3 years on other lfc forums. He will play a significent role in the clubs future in the coming seasons.

Although like you, I feel some may have disappointed so far, they were bought and brought in for the long term and squad strengthening reasons, and to be fair they have improved the overall depth and quality of the squad (with the deadwood being moved on thankfully) to the extent that we now only need to bring in 1 or 2 quality signings per season/window for the foreseeable future, and taking into account the youth system being implemented, it all augers well for the future.

I wouldn't be too downbeat on who was signed this year, and will take stock of things maybe this time next year when the disruptions and acquisitions to the squad will be minimal.

Aurelio- Not a left back and never will be. Hopeless at defending. 3rd choice left midfield at best.
Pennant- looks over-awed every time I see him play
        Paletta- Not enough games yet
Bellamy - frustrated by our system I think. Rafa's tactics don't get the best out of him.
Gonzalez - Hasn't settled yet, needs more games. Disappointed as I thought he was going to bring some much needed energy to our team.
Kuyt - Looks like a striker. He's settling in well.

That would be great I was thinking of getting his name on the back my new shirt. Might have to hold for next season (I think the sponsor might change as well) Kuyt # 7 class

Aurelio - Brilliant passer and crosser of the ball as well as being very handy at set-pieces. Definitely only to be used at LM. A classy player but will not shine unless he can get to grips with the pace and physical nature of the game here.

Pennant - He really is an excellent crosser of the ball. Now he's shaken off the nerves he needs to be more confident and decisive, I really believe he has the attributes to be a handy player for us. Form aside, what does worry me is he is very slight and is easily knocked off the ball.

Paletta - Looks a very good acquisition from the little we've seen so far. Strong in the air and in the tackle. A good compliment to Agger, which was probably in Rafa's thinking. Hope his positional sense and concentration levels prove to be good, if so he could be a future regular.

Bellamy - I feel he's being played in a slightly different role to what he's used to. He's at his best running with the ball at his feet rather than running onto the ball played into space ahead of him. We seem to be playing him on the shoulder of the last defender and I don't think that's the best way to use him - he's not a poacher. If used in his favoured role I think he'd be very good for us. Otherwise hopefully he'll adapt in time. I get the feeling Rafa likes to use him in this role more to push the opposition defence back and create some space rather than because he thinks it's Craig's best role.

Gonzalez - Trying a bit too hard, still looks nervous. Would look to see him relax and play with measured confidence, taking people on etc which he isn't doing at the moment. Has put in some nice balls with his left albeit sporadically.

Kuyt - Right from his debut you just knew the guy was going to be class. He has pretty much everything you want from a striker, shows class and intelligence both on and off the ball. On top of all that he's a ****ing top guy. That £10m looks a snip to me. Great signing.

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Talking of Kuyt was I the only one watching MOTD yesterday who when the first goal went in was reminded of David Coleman saying, "Toshack...Keegan...1-0"?
