Does he? He's a Liverpool fan isn't he? I know he also likes Cardiff, but I thought that Liverpool was his main club.

    Where did you read this?

His missus and kids stayed living there and as is common knowledge he struggles with his knees, playing at championship level isn't as taxing on him as he can play well at that level without training as much.

I might be wrong but I think his eldest lad is in the Cardiff age group system as well.
He'd struggle even more without them

But he could have joined Cardiff last year but instead chose us. Both parties are obviously happy with this deal, but I think he would have happily seen out his contract here if he was wanted before returning home.

He is a good player, but 80k pw for a player who can't play twice a week is a far too much.

Time is probably right great player that he is .. his fitness is suspect and I fear this season could be the one his body starts to hint to him to retire. Either way I will be happy.

I'll be gutted if Craig goes too, as I was when Maxi left.

If we really aren't making much of an effort to make him stay then I think that's down to wages. Bellamy is on £80k a week, so it will be another huge chunk of the wage bill.

Reducing our wage bill seems to be the big priority this summer, not signing new players, unfortunately
I suppose if we sign Walcott it will soften the blow for me.

With all the wage savings we're making we're going to be one of the most efficiently run sides in the league. Unfortunately we'll also be a mile off the top but our accounts will look FANTASTIC.

If he's asked to move then why are we paying him off? Makes no sense.

Obviously Cardiff can't afford £80k a week but if he wants to play for them then fair play, good luck, but don't ask LFC to help fund the move.

Totally agree. It's not like he's been here all his career or anything like that. Makes no sense.

I think the thing is that to compete for the top four long term we needed to make changes and those changes have to be funded somehow. I'm not sure about the timing of the cull but it was going to have to happen at some point.

For me I don't see that we are in a position to make the judgements of how much is too much in terms of player wages. For a start we usually only have rumours to go off when having the discussion.

In the last few years we have suffered badly from not only changing managers but style/philosophy of play as well each season. Consequently each manager has bought in players to enact their system that we then have to get rid of. We need a period of stability to allow us to challenge in the league with sustainable finances.

Our squad really is looking thin and the lack of quality replacements is worrying given the new season is less than 2 weeks away.
