Thanjk you.

I get what you're saying mate, but unfortunately average ain't gonna cut it either, we need a hell of alot better than that, if we wanna even comtemplate 4th spot.
I can't say I was enamoured with the signing of Downing - and I agree - we need more than average, but I think labelling him as '****' when the team as a collective, have been playing well isn't quite right. He's been an average cog in a mis-firing team.
I think that the underlying problem is that we shouldn't let Shaggy attend anymore home games, we always draw whenever he goes to watch the games.
Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."
Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.
well if he put 4 in the first half I reckon he may have got an assist today.
Thats the problem he may deliver 2/3 quality crosses is that enough for conversion? I see players like Valencia, Bale etc delivering quality ball after quality ball and very rarely hit the first man.....
Maybe his assist rate was good with Villa as they had the likes of Dunne and Carew who were quality in the air.
He only has a scoring rate of about 1 in 8 as well. sorry not good enough the very definition og bang average
Well if Suarez hadn't have taken the ball off him he would probably have had an assist (for Carroll's disallowed goal).
On the subject of crosses it would be interesting to see what the average cross completion rate is in the Premiership I'd imagine it's probably around 20% which means only 1 in 5 crosses reaches it's target and even less are converted to goals. So I think the idea that the idea that alot of players are deliving alot of quality crosses and finding their team mates is perhaps a mis-conception.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

All in my opinion of course.
All fair points mate
For me it's just yet another disspointing signing in the wide areas.
I didn't see every game so can't comment on that. I did read that he also played behind the main striker and floated. Can't imagine there wasn't interchanging between him and Young as they both allegedly play both sides.
He did interchange with Maxi.
The sense of playing inside out wingers was seen when Maxi scored.
Are you asking me a question or referring to the fact that Downing also plays from teh right as he did with Villa?
Regardless of him being versatile (if you could call him that) he has been sub standard & our problems from wide areas thus continues.
Neither, I'm making the point that we persist with playing him on the right and every time he has been employed there for us, he has been absolutely dreadful. He has looked better on the left, admittedly not up to the standard we should be getting.
You were posting about him being the answer to LM and being disappointed in him, but half the time he is playing on the right.
We used to think we were weak on the flanks with Pennant and Riera, but I'd take both of them over what we have now. Those two were supposed to be **** Rafa signings as well.
Our forwards have been wasteful also to say the least, so i do get where you're coming from with that.
I dunno mate i just don't see with it Downing, never have. Hope i'm wrong and he starts firing away but half the season gone already, come the end of the season i'll be very surprised if we look back and think "Stuart Downing is the answer to our LM problem"
I don't think anyone has ever said that he's going to be world class, I think that we signed him because we thought he could do a job and would be decent, rather than outstanding.

We were wrong!
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I think the problem is his confidence.
He finished the season with Villa on the very high note and unfortunately he hasn't reproduced the same impact nor the same type of performance with us and clearly with each and every game the lack of offensive production is getting to him.
Today you can see he was definitely trying his best but it almost feels he has the burden of the entire world on his shoulders and playing under tremendous amount of pressure is certainly affecting his game.
I still think he can, as Muddled said he's an average cog in a mis-firing team. I think as the team improves he will improve. One of the problems is he is the type of player that will play well when the team is playing well, but he isn't a player who can take control of the game and make the team play well, like a Gerrard or a Suarez would. The problem is we have too many of these 'passive' type players in the team.
