I was in Newcastle-under-Lyme a few months back, it's actually a very nice little place I was pleasently surprised, has a good Tesco's.

It's not Stoke obviously but it's near there, just thought I'd share that with you all anyway.

      It's fascinating.

After reading your post again, if the top attraction in Newcastle-under-Lyme is the Tesco store - i think i'll pass..

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

A stokie - alright duck - I went to staffs uni and lived in stoke for a few years - back when they were proper **** - so i've got a soft spot for Stoke and I'm one of the few people outside of Stoke who is actually made up/pleased with what they have achieved

if anyone had said to me when i was at uni that Stoke would be a solid premiership side, playing Uefa/Europa football and upsetting all the big sides I'd have died laughing

Also Jonathan Walters is a local lad to me (one of my mates knows him well) so it's good to see him doing well for himself

Admire Stoke and Pulis and the way they have built their side up. Pumped in money but spent it reasonably and got better every year.

Hate Coates' bet365 though. They blocked my registration for some reason.

You and me both mate. I started supporting just after we got relegated in the 80s and as recently as 5 or 6 years ago I was still completely resigned to the fact that I'd never get to see Stoke in the top flight in my lifetime. I've now seen us in an FA Cup Final and in February I'm going to watch us play Valencia at the Mestalla in the Europa. Unbelievable and utterly inconceivable a few years ago.

"Remembering where we've come from" has become a bit of a cliché on our board recently, but this Stokie certainly aint forgotten.

yeah mental that - trying to remember where stoke where - i started uni in 2001 through to 2004 - i think it was just after we stuffed you was 8-0 at your place in the FA cup? where you league 1 then? i can't remember that much

I remember the biggest game being Stoke vs Port Vale, local rivalry, and basically the whole of hanley, shops/pubs etc had to shut and board up windows etc because of the potential trouble.

                    Had good times in stoke

I once said (due to the type of football Stoke play) that I would rather saw my dick and both feet off with a rusty saw than watch and support that lot week in week out. Probably after we lost points against them...

                          Do you enjoy it Potterlog?

Maybe would be different if I was a local I guess.

In fairness mate, I haven't seen truefan999 post in the footy forums for a while. Maybe he's ****ed off.

Mate, I was brought up on trips to Rochdale, Gillingham, Walsall and the soapdodgers themselves, Port bloody Vale. I saw us lose 4-0 to Rotherham twice in two seasons. I saw us lose 0-7 to Birmingham City at home. I saw us go into a final-day relegation battle with Man City where a win could have seen us safe and we lost 5-2, and both teams were relegated to the third division in the worst experience I’ve ever had at a football match. I saw us capitulate feebly, countless times, under a succession of managers – ones who played directly, ones who played percentages and ones who tried to play the game “the right way” (spare me). The one thing they shared in common was that they were absolutely dog s**t.

So do I enjoy stuffing Arsenal 3 times at our place? Do I enjoy watching my team win an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley by the biggest margin in 80 years? Do I enjoy grinding out hard-earned points at places like White Hart Lane and Anfield? Do I enjoy playing and winning real European cup ties against the likes of Besiktas, Dinamo Kiev and Valencia?

I think you know the answer!

That said, it’s not as if we don’t question the way TP sets the team up sometimes (show me a set of fans that doesn’t) and a lot of us would prefer us to keep possession and play it on the ground a bit more… but it’s horses for courses innit – TP plays football his way and what he’s achieved doing so is nothing short of remarkable – anyone who could turn their back on it because of gripes about the style of play either aint a football supporter or doesn’t have a heart.

I have to say, and no offence to Potterlog, but i went to Stoke twice this season and even the game they won was dire, they played utterly turgid desperately horrible football and i honestly couldnt pay for a season ticket if that's what was on offer.

Second half in the league game was a training match, they just boot the ball into the air away from their area, we pick it up again, try to build another attack - then it breaks down and they boot the ball in the air again.

Seriously vile 'football'. Sure you're happy to be winning and doing as well as you've done, but watching that would have me removing my eyeballs and chucking them at the manager's head.
