Utd, City, Spurs, Arsenal and Chavs also have players that are sub par and would not even get into our team. The difference with them and us. Is they are have 'key star' players that are clinical and technically better then some of our players who are meant to be 'key star' players but as of yet have offered very little.

De Gea, Assou-Ekotto, Carrick, Milner, Lampard etc wouldn't get in our team (I suppose mentioning Meireles or Torres would be mischievous!), it's incorrect to use that as a line for debate.

We need to concentrate on our own and the functionality of our squad.

And that's not really reason to not sign somebody. It's an old - and extreme - example, but if we didn't look at Scunthorpe, we'd never have had Clemence or Keegan.

I'd have Lucas, Henderson and Gerrard over those three comfortably.

And what happens if Lucas or Gerrard get injured ? That's right, Adam and Spearing replace them. I don't like Lampard as a person one bit but if you'd rather have Adam in your starting 11 than Lampard you need you head checked.

Yes and those sub par players that our rivals have rarely start games and generally cost peanuts. The difference is that our sub standard players cost a fortune and regulary start games ahead of players that are vastly superior (Maxi and Meireles while he was here this season).

Most of us know who they. They are regularly and irregularly in the team.

I think our Back 4 with Reina are a match for Any of the Top 4 clubs, if not better then all of them. Solid as a rock.

Our deficiency lies when you have no Lucas, Gerrard and Saurez.

But if they were to all play together, then you have 8 world class and very good players in one team.

The Problem is if we could have Saurez and Gerrard in the same team attacking we have 2 world class players carrying another 2 average players. We need another World class player in attack.

Couldn't agree more man. Even though I thought Rafa had to go when he did, it's staggering the position he got us to in Europe in the middle of that cluster****. You're on the money about us needing to drop the sense of being entitled to any glory anymore. Rebuilding will be painfully frustrating. I really wish in many ways that it wasn't happening under Kenny because the questions we would ask of any other manager feel disloyal when asked of him. I don't actually believe we will win the PL under him- I know it's contradictory but - even though he's won it 4 times as a manager already - statistically the vast majority of managers don't win the league and I think he's starting from behind to be honest. The purchases of Downing and Carroll and his handling of the Suarez situation make me fear that he can't see the angles anymore. I look forward to being wrong though!

I agreed with Rafa going too, but I guess it's like most things in life - you don't appreciate it until it's gone. Looking back, what he achieved with his hands tied behind his back was incredible.

You're right with regards to Kenny though; he's almost expected to hit the ground running, but he'll need a grace period and the transition will need to be done quicker than a new manager coming in and stating a "five year plan".

But he also has too many deficiencies in his game to be anything other than a back up player. He needs someone to do his work for him and with out someone as good as Lucas to do that for him he is shown up.

If we're talking a squad and strength in depth, then yes, we're behind in that regard. But I think it's safe to say we're a work in progress and who's to say the year we quaify for the Champions League and the players we attract then, downgrade our current players to squad status?

At present sorry but those 3 are ahead of Henderson, Henderson is a good prospect and has clear ability, but he is not at the level of those players yet. They are all better players than Spearing and Adam.

Agree with all of that. Our back 4 is arguably the best in the league. I think we'll bring in at least 2 players this month, it's a straight a choice really between spending money on the right players this month or finishing outside the top 4 because our current squad isn't capable of that.

Maybe it's an extreme example, but if we actually looked at it, I'd have Gerrard over Lampard, Lucas over Carrick and I don't really think Milner is a central midfielder.

Although I think we are moving away from our problem area; Our back five is of a high quality and I think in the cente of the park we are decent, the main issue - bar Suarez - is who we have out wide and up top.
