Anyway - well, first of all shocked, what a performance - worked hard, we organised, motivated, just completley different to the previous games.

So lets get there, and win - it'll be great for the club, the fans, the players, to get a trophy under their belts in whats been a very up and down season as we still try to recover from Hicks/Gillett/Hodgson.

Credit where it's due, Downing, Henderson and Kuyt were magnificent last night.
Bellamy clear MoM but the other 3 have struggled this season.

I don't think it was a pen but I thought it was a stone wall nailed on penalty in real time so can fully understand why Dowd gave it.

my initial reaction, at full speed was penalty.....it happens lightening quick and Richards throws himself in front of the ball with his hands raised high and it clearly hits his hands....So i screamed PENALTY!

upon reply, yes it's very very harsh but the ref would have need unbelievable reactions/sight to have spotted that in real time, make a decision on the spot without replays.

Having said that - **** it, We were ****ting city, much the better side, and if it wasn't for Joe ****ing Hart it would have been game over before the penalty

Happy with the performance of the team but mainly of the pride of this team!! We are a bit closer to a trophy now... Is going to be great to play in Wembley in a month time!!! I disagree. If a player raises his arms in the box and it alters the flight of the ball, stops a goal bound effort, then deliberate or not it should be handball. The problem is there are other factors such as how close the players was to where the ball was struck from etc which can confuse the matter, and the subsequently the referees decision. But generally speaking I think that's a fair rule. Of course that requires a level of consistency from the referees...

From the referees perspective last night, he would have seen Richards lunging forward with legs outstretched, but also with arms outstretched, and ending up blocking the ball with his arms (regardless of it deflecting off his leg first). Deliberate or not, when the ball then hits his arms in that scenario I'd say more often than not the referee would have given a penalty.

Anyway, that's a long-winded way of me saying I think the ref made the right call last night

Fair do’s, but the rule is that the contact needs to be deliberate, hand to ball rather than ball to hand. But really I'm just dismissing the notion that Dowd gave the pen without thinking it was deliberate, assuming he's followed the rule properly. He seemed to believe that Richards knew what he was doing when he flew into the block with his arms up like that.

Anyway, I'm not complaining, though I probably would be if the same thing had gone against us
