Yes we are in a state of massive transition continually but most clubs rarely ever get any of the above...

We have 1 final on the horizon, we potentially got another.
    Maybe.
We are clearly not pushing the top of league, we are a long way off the top of the league right now.
We have the ability, for some reason we went and bought mediocrity instead though.

Yes we are in a state of massive transition continually but most clubs rarely ever get any of the above...
      - 1 cup final and still in one domestic competition
      - Due diligence still being done on stadia
      - Still in touching distance for fourth
      - A sound transfer budget guaranteed every season.
      - Barwick in to analyse and critique the media input/output from the club

We need to be more savvy and clinical in the transfer market. It seems that Ayre is doing all the marketing stuff.

All in all, I'd give it 3-5 years before we are a top, top club again. An opportunity for the youngsters to come into the side, better transfers, more equality thanks to FFP and we should be commencing work on redeveloping Anfield or building a new stadium.

This summer is massive in terms of the time period we'll be looking at.

        - Learn from mistakes made in the transfer market and start buying the right players for the right prices.

        - Make a decision on the stadium whether that is moving or redeveloping Anfield.

If we can get 4th place this season then I'd say we'll be a European giant again within 2 years, finish outside the top 4 and it will be a fairly long wait before we are a top club again.

I can see another 5 to 7 years before we challenge for the EPL. Just see us being a good cup team for a while yet.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

It really shouldn't though, we should be able to start challenging much sooner than with the league as it is.

We are and remain to be a top club and have been since the 70s. Spurs are considered a too side currently yet have won nothing whereas we have regularly topped up our trophy cabinet. Most other clubs would love to be as unsuccessful as we are

Spurs finished 5th last season but are challenging for the EPL this season despite spending **** all last summer. If we had spent wisely last summer and January we would be challenging too.

It's difficult i know, but thinking about it, many of the top sides in the world we're meant to rival, have been spending large amounts on players for a long long time, regularly and some in a relatively short space of time, which helps massively.

They get to overhaul their side quickly, doing it the way we have been, as soon as you start to get a few good players, ready to add some more to make that final push, someone wants to leave, or one of the big spenders come in and buy them, so you never quite get to build that squad you want, or that's good enough to consistently challenge for the title season in season out.

Hopefully the ffp will change this approach, and things will level off again.

Spurs have got it right once really, since the Prem started, but if they don't keep investing in top players, their best players will leave, and they'll slip back down just as we did under H&G.

But maybe they've got it right, just at the right time, and will make more of it than we did when we were champions of europe, but spending like a mid table team.

As far as the question of when will we be a great team again, who really knows, we are a great club though, so lets not forget that.

It could happen quicker than many think though. imo.

We're miles away from challenging again and I fear that this whole Suarez affair has damaged us from a commercial perspective. Not only are we struggling to get back into the Champions League, we're now percieved by many to be completely blase about racism. Commercial dealings are going to be largely affected by this. I think that Suarez will be sold on next season and Dalglish will leave for damage limitation.

The best way to get back on track is to take the FA and Carling Cup, sell on Luis and move forward with a clean sheet.

Well quite frankly, I think this complete bollocks, outside the UK generally people don't give a ****, and in Uruguay we have certainly become extremely popular.

And if we believe that Suarez is genuinely innocent then selling out like that would be low.

I think it would be better to keep hold of our best players and get rid of the **** ones. Carroll, Downing, Kuyt, Maxi will all need replacing in the summer.

you are possibly the biggest knee jerker on here.

You still need to have a squad of players! Suplement them with players to go in around them and we'll be in a good place otherwise it's start all over again.

Fans of Uruguay are naturally going to be supportive of Luis, while large multinational corporations like Standard Chartered are going to be concerned recent events.

That is true, but that squad needs to be better than what Downing and Carroll can offer.
