This has a lot to do with feelings as well I reckon, and that't probably why I can only point to Gerrard. I can't really remember much of Kenny's days, he looks like a fantastic player from the clips documentaries etc., but I have far more invested in Gerrard so to speak.
Gerrard is simply an amazing player, and while there have been better players than him technically, finishing wise, tackling, passing and so on - there are no more complete player than Gerrard that can do it all at a world class level. I can't think of one player I have ever seen more complete than him?
And he has carried us for a lot of seasons, with some questionable talent next to him.

The views are obviously going to be dependent on age.I remember Kenny and him and Rush were my first real football heroes but they played alongside some fantastic players.
For me it has to be Steven Gerrard. He has got the lot as a footballer and has carried the team for a decade with some very average players alongside him and has been responsible for some of the greatest moments I have lived supporting Liverpool.
John Barnes is also up there imo.-----------------------------------------------

It's a bit harsh to mark him down on the basis that his teammates weren't sufficiently ****.Originally posted by Cormack74 View PostGerrard.
KD was pretty special but I don't remember him carrying a team the way that SG has done on occasion.
The correct answer to the original question is, of course, Kenny. We've been incredibly lucky to have had some truly brilliant players play for us over the years, many already named in this thread. Gerrard, Barnes, Rush, Souness, Hughes, Beardsley, Keegan, Clemence, Hansen, Heighway, Hunt, and many more besides. For me, Kenny edges it because he was just so damn talented. Plus he came in with the unenviable task of replacing a legend, and ended up outshining him. That's no mean feat.
