Without labouring the point, for any of us who think Carroll will come good, the only way for him to come good is for him to do the things that Van Persie does - and he doesn't have a single attribute that suggests he will ever do this. Van Persie is what a £35M player looks like and he's the sort of striker a team with League ambitions is supposed to have. Carroll is not to blame for today but it says it all when your most expensive player ever is only thrown pointlessly on at the death to salvage a draw from a must win game.

And I ****in detest the sight of us chasing a game in the last few minutes without having the ball - what the **** sort of midfield lets this happen?

I believe in Henderson btw. He'll be excellent.

Carroll and Van Persie are different, just like saying the only way Carroll can become good is if he plays like Messi

If van Persie played for us, I think we would win the title.

Gutted at the result, thought we played some great football and were by far the better team, and that was without Lucas, Gerrard, Agger and Johnson. On that performance we're a goal poacher away from being genuine contenders.

Positives? Jay played well, as did Henderson. Kelly is quality and should free Johnson up to play a more advanced role. Suarez is coming back to form. Dirk had a good game.

Negatives? Carra has lost it. Pepe got beaten at his near post. Suarez still wants to hog it too much and throws himself to the floor far too often. Adam has very little game intelligence and only looks up when he's not moving. The goals are still six inches too narrow. Kenny's tactical substitutions are still questionable.

Regardless of Downing being poor or unlucky, we need neither in the team. He has no end product whatsoever.

Suarez also needs to start producing either goals or assists. Or we may as well sell him (not confident we would spend the proceeds wisely either way).

Ill never know what happened to that set piece specialist, Charlie Adam. In fact, how many corners have we scored from in the last decade? I would be surprised if we got into double figures. Why are we so bad at corners?

Arsenal were pretty poor, and we probably just blew our chance of Champions League qualification (and lets face it if Arsenal, Tottenham or Chelsea strengthen wisely with their CL cash, we may struggle to ever get back in).

Its a shame, because the team as a whole played really well, despite being short of 4 of our best players (Bellamy, Gerrard, Agger, Lucas). I like this brand of football, and all we need is a couple of top quality players with an end product. Not sure we will ever see them though.

we're not going to win the league without playing in the cl first. never ever ever. we have to get a cl spot in order to bring in the sort of players that will win us the league. that's why i want 4th spot. not so much to win the cl, but to attract the players who can win us the league.

TBF mate, corners are generally have low scoring %.

Can't give it to any in the final third, just not sharp enough. Kuyt or Suarez could have gotten a vote if they finished a chance or two.

Kuyt (penalty miss apart) wasn't that bad - Bellamy should have been bought on much earlier though.

The less said about Carroll the better, he never looks like scoring so would have made little difference.

Smash and grab, same old story missed chacnes and get punished. How on god's green earth Henderson and Downing keep on getting picked to start games is ****ing insane. Shocking shocking signings.

Abslutely livid, 10 points off 4th c ya later. Though Suarez and Kuyt were very good and Spearing was excellent. Carra is gone and is a liability and Reina was shocking for the second goal.

What a difference a world class finisher makes, RVP is the best striker in the world. Giving him even 2 chances is asking for trouble, so ****ing annoyed.

Arsenal were awful, we dominated them throughout and if that was a one of game you'd say we were unlucky/one of those days etc but **** that, we have been throwing away games like this all season.

Kenny i'm afraid has a lot to answer for aswell. The longer he persists with the dross we've signed, the more damage we'll suffer.

We need a goalscorer. Battered those cunts and had we been 4-0 ahead at half time it wouldn't have been a surprise.

Frustrating is probably the only word to describe this.

We bossed Arsenal for 97 minutes pretty much, and VP have to chances and they win.

We where yet again the much better team at anfield, and yet again again our strikers (and midfielders) can't manage to score.

We need a VP kind of striker in the team, and we would easily be in top-4. That position was most likely lost for this season today

But surely we're comparing two different type of players and we're getting lost in our frustration at our lack of cutting edge; Van Persie is a number ten for want of a better expression that is in his prime and playing with confidence in a team tailored to get the most out of him. Carroll is a number nine, that is young and a little rusty, that needs a little bit of tweaking and to understand a new way of football, playing in a team that is playing a style against everything he has done previously. I take your point about the price and to an extent, you're right.

Henderson has a great future ahead of him.

i would love to win it. it's a terrific trophy. less important at this point than the league, but not by a lot.
