Spearing - bossed the midfield all game.

Can't give it to any in the final third, just not sharp enough. Kuyt or Suarez could have gotten a vote if they finished a chance or two.

How many real chances did we create for Kuyt and Suarez? Suarez's best chance he made himself.
Amusingly the best chance we made was for Henderson who did actually waste it.

But surely we're comparing two different type of players and we're getting lost in our frustration at our lack of cutting edge; Van Persie is a number ten for want of a better expression that is in his prime and playing with confidence in a team tailored to get the most out of him. Carroll is a number nine, that is young and a little rusty, that needs a little bit of tweaking and to understand a new way of football, playing in a team that is playing a style against everything he has done previously. I take your point about the price and to an extent, you're right.

Henderson has a great future ahead of him.

i would love to win it. it's a terrific trophy. less important at this point than the league, but not by a lot.

We can forget about any of those unless we decide to spend big and buy a few players that have potential to be true difference makers.

We are stuck in a vicious cycle of signing **** every transfer window. We have 1 title challange in a ten year period then it all goes tits up the following season when we should kick on. With no CL football we will be stuck signing overpriced english **** from clubs like Villa, sunderland etc.

Lets face it LFC Sacked a CL winning manager and replaced him with Roy ****ing Hodgson. We bring it on ourselves. Its so tragic all you can do is laugh.

Would RVP have scored Kelly's chance? Yes. Would he have scored the penalty? Almost certainly. Would he have scored Henderson's chance in the first half? Yes. Would he have as low a conversion rate as Suarez? No chance. Would he have got on the end of one of our 14 corners today? Almost certainly.

We've made dozens of chances this year, many of which RVP would have taken.

Look at it the other way around - would any of our strikers have scored RVP's winner? No.

wasn't really the 88th minute though was it? the minute arteta goes down the clock effectively stops. but agreed was later than I'd have liked but who should he have taken off? they were all doing a job. I'd have gone for luis maybe as bellamy is more effective centrally. but then he's our best player on paper. dirk was playing well. downing was giving us width. and replacing henderson would have left bellamy too deep. tough calls.

I'd have gone for a straight swap with Kuyt, he was doing OK but not great, and we needed an injection of pace.

i think that's very naive. you might get one or two, but not the kind of amount we need. we already have suarez, exactly who else do you think is going to bin cl football to join us if we finish 7th again?

Can't believe we lost that game - we should have had it won by half time.

We clearly need someone who you can bank on to finish chances - but more than that, we need the players we have to actually convert clear cut chances. Even if we signed a Cavani type, we can't then rely on him to score all our goals. Suarez, Kuyt and Henderson all had at least one chance to score, and that's without mentioning the Kelly miss. It seems ridiculous that we are missing so many chances. Surely at times like this is when the manager really earns his corn, by instilling a belief in the players that they can score and beat chances.

Poor signings have clearly hampered us, and you wonder if our scouting/management team have the nous to sign the right players to improve us. Dalglish has to take responsibility for our league position - no matter where we are in the league. No CL pretty much equals a failure for this season and that is where we are headed.
