Exactly, we were looking in the wrong markets.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostThe problem is English/British-based players are massively overpriced, we're looking in the wrong markets if we want value for money.
There's no point building a base from the Academy like Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona and Ajax if we're going to buy players who don't fit the criteria.
Pace, technique, movement, ability to create space, good passing and a mental toughness.
Since we're not in the Champions League and working under profits of £30million a year for players, we need to be much more savvy in snapping players up with those qualities than we have been.

I think had we showed more ambition we'd have had one or two world class players to complement Suarez and Gerrard. The club sells itself FFS, don't think it's going to ever be an issue.Originally posted by Imy View PostWe bought 'transitional' players because the top world class players were not interested in us.
However a lot of terrible judgement left us with our lot, we could/should have shopped a lot better. Are we winning?

But we were and we will going forward without CL football.Originally posted by NigelLG View PostHow many years were City out of the CL when they started splashing out their money? It took them around 4/5 years to get there. We were lucky in 2005 because we had Rafa and he managed to pull it all together by making us compete in the CL but we were still lacking in the league.
It all comes back to spending money I'm afraid. Players will be attracted by that unless you adopt a safer policy which will yield long term and that's the route we've gone down I'm afraid. If we can win our domestic cups in the meantime, then it's not too bad.
We're never going to fall short of attracting good players. Maybe we need to spend more to get the elusive one or two who we need to get this team to a higher level. Don't think not being in the CL is going to put paid to that. At the end of the day, our bread and butter has got to win the league. That's the trophy we most want.
Good quality footballers want to challenge themselves playing against the "cream of the crop" and CL competition is just that.
In terms of our bread and butter being winning the league we again need quality players and most of them play abroad and for them to join us and help us with that task we need to be able to offer them CL football.
I am not saying that all footballers would turn us down but those that would want to come we have to pay over the odds to get their services and that will be very difficult for us to do especially as FSG is very outspoken about staying within FFP rules.
I do agree that we don't need tons of those high quality players but I do think we are 2, 3 players short to be in the real mix for those most prestigious trophies.
We are not the only club that is interested in their services and if we are unwilling to offer them the highest wages (like Cityh or Chelsea not that I want us to be the same type of club) or CL competition what would be the motivations for them to join us?Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View Postwell they can ****ing do one then. its up to us to sell them the club. hazard is coming from france ffs, if coming to a 6th or 7th place team over here with our history isn't big enough then tough. of course we'll miss out on some players, but I want all our signings to want to win the league first and the CL second. otherwise shoot the cunts.
Because we are LFC?
Our stock is not as high as it used to be and we need to change that.
We had the chance to that last year and this year but we invested the money poorly and one of the reasons behind that was that we didn't offer CL football so our choices were limited.
It is vicious cycle as we have to be in CL competition so we can get some good players (alternatively we have to pay over the odds) cause otherwise I am afraid we will have to prepare ourselves for the similar type of volatility and disappointment as this season is turning to be.Last edited by Mostar; 03-03-12, 05:44 PM.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

i have to agree with the other posters who have said that suarez isnt a "main" goal scorer. i too see him as a creative player who will help to get the ball into the penalty area. we need a cheeky striker to stick it in the net. carroll is mostly a stationary lump that is easy for defenders to mark. he has no intelligent movement to speak of.
if we had someone like eriksen to help provide the bullets and open up defenses then surely the actual tap ins could be completed by almost anyone. there is no creativity from adam. we have no service from our wingers. its a desperate situation.
we could easily replace our wingers and front two with lads from the reserves and get more product. it would be difficult to be any worst, to be fair...
with suarez sitting behing two youngsters helping to thread the passes we could only move forward. two from lucas, gerrard and jay would tighten the middle up nicely. time to gat coates off the bench.
how long can kenny continue to keep the blinkers on.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.
