Personally I'd give him another yearOriginally posted by Craig_H View PostFair play. I certainly think one is entitled to expect to see improvement within a three year time frame, if not two...and then if it doesnt happen, question the position of the manager.
Not 13 months though.

Re Houllier/Benitez getting 6 years, I believe there were many more signs of progress than what we're seeing now.
I will be surprised if FSG stand for this, to be honest.
And for what it's worth, I don't want Kenny sacked and am absolutely not calling for his head. But if he stepped down, I'd be relieved. Immensely sad it didn't work out, but relieved. I'd love nothing more than for him to turn it round next season but I've got very little faith that he will.

Not sure that would have made a differenceOriginally posted by Gibbo9 View PostAdam shouldn't have started last night imo. Why change a winning formula.

I'll go with you re the league being the yardstick, but dont be telling me you werent gagging to win that trophy at Wembley last monthOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostRe the League Cup finalists, those big clubs were also winning/challenging for leagues. As far as many more signs of progress with Ged and Rafa - really? Rafa's first league season - do you remember the away record? Almost Hodgson-esque, wasnt it?
I remember it was abysmal anyway, in context of what Rafa THEN went on to do in future seasons. Which is kind of my point summed up, as regards Kenny needing to be given more time.
Of course you're perfectly entitled to not have the faith that Kenny will turn it round, and in fact it's not really a conscious 'decision' to feel that way, it's just your gut instinct and that's fair enough.
You might be right, only time will tell. I've not reached the point whereby i dont think he can turn it around and i think he's entitled to at least another window to see if he can bring in the right kind of players needed.
Saying all that, if it was to happen that Kenny went in the summer (obviously it's not something i could influence, so i dont want it to happen but if it's going to then it's going to) and Rafa came back in, i'd definitely have a real sense of excitement and curiosity swelling inside.

I know mate, It was more my point of view before the game even began, I hate it when managers change a winning formula for a number of reasons.Originally posted by Lecter View PostNot sure that would have made a difference

I think our main mistake was moving Carra to right back, besides that it was a shocking mistake from Enrique, which in all fairness even though he's been off form recently is rare. The times they are a changin'.

We all wanted to win and we were all made up to win, but I think it has only superficially papered over what has been an awful league season and a horrific run of league form that is worse than I can remember.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI'll go with you re the league being the yardstick, but dont be telling me you werent gagging to win that trophy at Wembley last month

As far as im concerned we need at least 5 new players (1 central defender,2 midfielders and 2 strikers).Suarez should be an attacking midfielder not a striker. At this moment in time our team is woeful no consistancy no urgency no creativity. We dont need to break the bank but we need to buy decent players.

There isn't an inherent rule that you get years, and there is no concept of fairness in this regard. Rafa and even Houllier had a recent record of success and we invested patience and time in them because we thought there was no reason why they couldn't recreate that with us with the same recipe. Kenny does not come with this, so there is less confidence that he has a winning strategy that he needs time to implement. In fact, rather than working to a '5 year plan', the purchases and selections make it look more like he's making it up as he goes along.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostI need to break this down
I totally disagree that it's been dross. We've had about 4-5 games where it's been dross, the majority of it has been pretty good (very good at times) but lacking the cutting edge in the final third. Both in terms of creative spark and converting chances. And yes, Kenny cant go without some blame on that, because he spent money buying players to give us both of those things and they havent. He's not beyond accountability on that front.
I dont, however, consider the fact that we've got the final bit wrong (putting ball in net) to equate to the idea that our football has generally been dross. The chance conversion stat says an awful lot. If we only convert about 7% of chances, and get 35 goals, then clearly the problem is that 7% figure. We dont go into (most) games wondering if we'll get chances, we worry about them not going in. Posts, bars, missed penos...
I've got to take issue with a bit of this too.
The recent League Cup finals have been:
Cardiff v Liverpool
Birmingham v Arsenal
Man Utd v Villa
Man Utd v Spurs
Spurs v Chelsea
Arsenal v Chelsea
Man Utd v Wigan
Liverpool v Chelsea
So out of the last 16 finalists, only 3 havent been a 'big' team.
I see where you're coming from with this and i share those concerns - so even though i might be in a different corner than you regarding Kenny and his position, i dont NOT see the problems. But, as i've asked already, why should Kenny only have one year to get things right when those before have had 6?Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
