Because the rules are stupid and confusing and stupid. Did I mention they are stupid?

You can no longer 'play to the whistle' because the whistle doesnt go until the man goes for the ball.

Therefore the defender has to try and cut the ball out because he cant afford to let it go through in case the ref doesnt give it. As soon as the ball brushes against the defender it counts as a second phase of play, apparently.

Seriously. A second phase of play even though it happens in the space of 2 seconds. ****ing lunacy. Morons are running the game.

But the defender didn't get a touch on the ball, the claims by the commentators that it was a different phase of play was nonsense, it's a pass straight through to Cisse, it's clearly offside, I couldn't believe that no-one was talking about it last week.

We've had some very poor officiating in the last couple of weeks.

Back to the good old days of if you're in an 'offside position', you're ****ing offside !
Simple as that......don't care whether you're on the opposing side of the pitch or right in the thick of it.
It was simple, it worked better than this ****e, and actually clarified the rule rather than making it into a judgement every time.

Its one change I would love to see brought in..........."not interfering with play","not involved in the initial phase of play" = load of bollocks.
You're on the pitch, you're seeking to gain advantage, the defending team is aware of your position and are setup as such etc etc.........BBEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPP. "You're offside son."
