My guess would be that it is the nature of defenders vs attackers. Being a good defender is about consistency and not stand out moments. On a per match basis defenders are only ever going to win if we mount a ridiculous rearguard action but over a longer stretch their value can be more easily seen.

True, and the best players in the world are always forwards/wingers/attacking mid's. We are easily sold on the individual brilliance, while what makes a great team is the consistent high level performers.

Hmmm, not so sure about that, Skrtel is quite clearly the choice for player of the year, everywhere.

Yep Suarez for me. Based on nothing but the MOM threads. I can remember individual things he has done all season, the same with Skrtel. But he clearly has been the better over the course based on that.

1) Suarez - Yes he's not got as many goals as we'd hoped for, but some of his performances have been out of this world.

2) Agger - Phenomenal defender. Aside from his other numerous talents he also barely ever makes a mistake. Our only truly world class defender IMO.

3) Skrtel - Had a brilliant season. The reason I picked Agger ahead of him is that I feel Skrtel needs Agger there to perfom, next to anyone else he's not quite as good. I also feel he's more error prone that Agger is too.

Enrique was brilliant for most of the season too but his form dropped off alarmingly. He needs to start defending the ball rather than the man. Too often he used brute strength in one on one duels to knock the attacker out of the way when he should just play the ball. It's cost us lately (especially against Valencia). I hope he learns from this (as Glenn Johnson has) and comes back a better player next season.

Had Lucas not got injured I'm sure he would have been close to winning this too, he was having a great season beforehand

Suarez, only dipped when he was wrongly labelled a racist, has been immense other than that. Skrtel has been boss too but he's a good boss compared to Suarez brilliant boss.

Skrtel looked really made up when he got that golden samba the other day, thought he was going to cry!

Skrtel had an outstanding season but Suarez for me.

He is heart and soul of LFC atm and for me it cannot be anybody else.
