So basically his tactics are not what's best for the club? If so that's a worry, AVB tried to force his tactics down Chelsea's throats and it got him nowhere.Originally posted by el matador View Postmartinez tries to play good football and unfortunatley 9 times out of ten you will be beaten by better teams who also want to play football because they have better footballers than what wigan have got.
Bruce mixed it up a lot more so they defended a lot better and were more compact. Under martinez they're more attack minded hence they get slaughtered most of the time.Vive la France

I for one would be happy for Martinez or AVB to get it. Both play attacking, attractive football which until KK took over we hadn't seen in 15 years. Benitez played effective football, but never excited. Most of the time you were wondering where the next goal came from. Wouldn't want him back to be honest. I would like to see if he would have kept Wigan up.

they'll probably sell the club in 20 years or something, unless they hit a wall, and that's when the payout happens. in the meantime, there's a club to run, and i don't think they would have bought the club unless they were looking at 20 years of running it, and thinking it would be an enjoyable thing to do, which means building a winning team. if they didn't think they could make us a success, they wouldn't be wasting their time with us. they don't play the short game. the idea is the same at boston, but they've been there over a decade now without a whisper of them leaving, through good times and bad.dave of mutilation

Originally posted by little dave hedgehog View Postit is attack. it's rhetoric to push this agenda that they don't understand what it means to believe in a club, and frankly i think it's bull****. i realize it's an opinion, but the way that some people drop the word franchise into what they're saying is just condescending, divisive nastiness.

seriously your mad if you believe that; we beat every major force in european football when rafa was in charge; tell me one other manager on the list of potentials on offer that could/would do the same???Originally posted by gmac74 View PostI for one would be happy for Martinez or AVB to get it. its a tough one to call.Originally posted by Suarez View PostSo what you're saying is that he doesn't know how to play to his teams strengths?
he always sets his teams up positively to go out and play good football and win matches. Obviously there is a huge difference the talent available to him than say fergie. He doesnt change his philosophy because thats the way he wants to play and he believes that the young players he has at the club will eventually develop into good footballers by playing football and not long ball style football.
But when you concede over 60 goals every season then you know that maybe the philosophy has to be tweaked a little to be more cautious. Really, with 10 games left everyone thought they had gone but somehow they pulled it out of the bag.
The challenge for martinez would be to take wigan into the top half of the table and then you could say that he was a genuinely outstanding manager. But he hasnt done that and as things stand, he plays good football that entertains but thats it. There's no track record of success (relatively speaking to wigan).[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]
