If we are unwilling to consider Rafa I'd take AVB.

Him and Clarke partnership could work very well.

Do we have the right players for AVB to make an immediate impact? Which players are the winners and losers if he joins?

If AVB is the chosen one imo FSG will give him 3-year plan to implement his vision and buy the right players over the next couple years that are suitable for his project subject that the results are not any worse or the same under Kenny.

In terms of winners and losers it depends on which players will fit into 4-3-3 set up as I'd expect to see him to go with that formation if he is the one.

So that would mean a striker, a wide player and a midfielder for the first team plus some squaddies.

Personally, I've been put off AVB after the whole chelsea winning the CL episode.

I think its fair to say if AVB was installed as manager, Charlie Adam and Wee Jay Spearings asses will be clenching.

I am actually intrigued by the possibility of us getting Villas-Boas. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but I wonder what people's opinion of him would have been had he joined us straight from Porto? I remember people (myself included) waxing lyrical about him. You only have to read the article Roy Henderson's article http://www.level3football.com/royhen...are_at_chelsea to see that the mans knowledge of the game is top notch and that he is very attention to detail just like your Rafa's and Mourinho's. I just think it's easy to paint him in a bad light because of his time at Chelsea. We all know enough about Chelsea to know that it's very difficult to build a project there because you just don't get the time. Perhaps this break would have done him the world of good as he would have had the chance to evaluate his performance as manager and come back fresh.

I found this stat below quite interesting.

                  Before Terry-Ferdinand incident against QPR
                  P: 8 W: 6 D: 1 L: 1 Pts: 19 Points per Game: 2.37 Goals: 20 Against: 9 Position: 3rd (3 points off 1st)

Chelsea were also top of their cl group with two wins and a draw (away to Valencia)

From QPR match until he got sacked
                  P: 19 W: 7 D: 6 L: 6: Pts: 27 (46 in total) Points per game: 1.42 Goals: 27 Goals Against: 23 Position: 5th (20 points off 1st, 3 points off 4th)
Now I am not saying the Ferdninand v Terry thing is the reason why they collapsed so badly but it's something for people to think about.

For me there are still questions marks about Villas-Boas. Are his man mangement skills really poor? He didn't seem to have a problem at Porto did he? Perhaps he did try to remove the old guard too quickly. I'm sure he'll admit that himself. The other thing is for all Villa-Boas's methodical approach to the game, does the problem lie when it comes to communicating his ideas to the players in a way that they fully understand what is required of them? You can have all the knowledge in the world but if you're not clear in your delivery then you're going to have big problems.

I'm hoping he would have learnt not to be so stubborn when it comes to implementing his tactics/system. I'm sure we all love that he plays a high defensive line and likes his teams to press. However, it was clear very early on that Terry (in particular) and a few others were struggling to adapt to Villa-Boas new system but he stuck with it despite teams finding it very easy to create chances against them. In the past it's always been difficult to create chances against Chelsea but it weren't the case under Villas-Boas. I personally don't mind managers sticking to what they believe in but you must be able to adapt and change your system to one that best suits the players or buy players that fit the system you want to implement. He struggled in that respect imo.

All in all, despite my concerns I would still pick him as out next manager if Rafa doesn't get it. I reckon the break would have done him some good. For me, he looks to be a manager that could build a long term project given the chance.

Agreed Marcus, he was sold down the river by those cunts at Chelsea, who IMO simply stopped playing for him cos AVB had the guts to drop some of the old guard. I admired what he tried to do there. I see Lampard snottily referred to him as "the other fella" last night, which speaks volumes.

I like his ideas, the high line, high press etc and I think he'd be able to attract good players. If Rafa doesn't get it, which I'm sure he won't, then AVB is my choice.

Sadly yes, its time Carra steps down and Coates took over. Don't get me wrong, Carra has been Mr Defence for a long time and done a fantastic job but, the pace of the game has got to much for him now and he's getting caught out when he plays.

Lots of to Carra : for everything you've done and acheived for the Club handshake: Oh' he's still a good bench option though

AVB was sacked for a reason at Chelsea, and proved afterwards he was struggling to manage at this level. I feel it would be a very big gamble to take him as manger. I just don't understand why the job is not going to Rafa.

I think he has accepted that he is now behind Agger and Skrtel, but could still be usefull from the bench for a season.

I think AVB would be a good choice, give him some serious cash to invest in new players during the summer and two full seasons before we sack him.

Presumably Rafa was sacked for a reason at Inter, Valladolid and Osasuna.

On top of the other ****e at Chelsea, AVB had to put up with that utter cunt Mourinho texting Chelsea players about him, undermining him, just like he did to Rafa at Inter.

If AVB becomes the new manager he certainly won't be short of motivation or hunger, would love for him to prove the likes of Terry and lampard wrong!
