They'd better at least interview Rafa.

If they do and decide he isn't the man, then fair enough - but if they don't even speak to him it would be Madness. Madness I tells thee.
    Modifying post.

The reason Rafa would be better than a Guardiola type is that he did it before with us. When Houllier left we were almost in the same position we are in now & Rafa made us a top club again - continuously in the CL, even making 2 finals, unearthing world class players like Xabi Alonso & Torres to name a few. Yes his last season wasn't anything special, however we don't know half the ****e that was going on behind the scenes with Hicks & Gillette. We still made the Europa League semi finals on top of everything else & he genuinely loves the club & the city. For me there is only 1 person who has the proven credentials to get us out of this mess & that is Rafael Benitez - makes sense on so many levels...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

I don't see the squad fitting Martinez or Rodgers ideally either.
I think Henderson would revel in an AVB system. Downing would be like a fish out of the sea though (although maybe a rigid task and finish structure may be his best opportunity to contribute as he looks incapable of playing to any standard on his own initiative)
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Agree with that but we live in a world of short term'ism these days so keep an eye out for our lovely media putting forward someone who's won his first game managing an Under 8's side...

Also managers must tailor their ideas/tactics to the players they have available

Or at least that was an argument levelled at Kenny

For Wigan, success would mean not being relegated.

For FSG it's attaining at least 4th in the league (above winning any domestic competitions).
                    We come not to play.

Club is dead to me right now as is football. Money over glory. Brilliant stuff.
Exactly football isn't about winning anymore, it's about entertainment and finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the top league and 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in the lower leagues...

I love football but I also detest it for the way that finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the EPL is more important than winning a trophy...

I really, really don't want a defensive italian manager

After some of the stuff we have had to endure over the last few seasons. Free flowing attacking football please - keegan

FWIW Ive liked Martinez for a few years. Ive taken notice of him since he was a pundit during the 2010 world cup. He seems a very bright guy. I doubt its all based on the last 2 months.

I don't know if Im keen that we take a chance on him though.

Mind you, he pronounces 'Cluub' the same as Rafa did. So maybe he is right for us.
