People said he was too old earlier in his career when he was a success with Real Madrid and Juve, he's one of the finest of our our era and compared to the other **** that's been linked with us would be a superb choice, he wasn't fantastic with England, but let's be frank, even the best of us can't polish ****. He has a way of squeezing everything out of a squad, and that's exactly what we could do with right now, when you consider the limited nature of our squad and in all probability not enough money to reinforce all areas with enough quality. For me, if it's between him and a number of inexperienced rookie managers, then it's Fabio all day. After Rafa, he's actually one of my preferred choices overall.
I think Capello would be very good. Can't see him coming with us in our current situation though. Like Mourinho he strikes me as someone who likes the deck somewhat loaded in his favour - we're some way down the PL pecking order at present.

On the other hand we have a lot of quality ageing players (Gerrard, Kuyt, Maxi and even Cole I guess) and his experience in Italy where such squads seem more common could be valuable.

How about we get Capello in for a year, and by then we'd have convinced Pep to come and join the redolution©?

IMO we should be looking for a long term solution, not a short term one

It's short term for a year, and then long term.

So who, according to the clueless media are turning us down today? I've heard it Alex Mcliesh's turn.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

Capello could definitly do a job here, he is a quality manager. Not really the type of football I'm hoping we are going for, but it's hard to find more experienced managers with better results than him around.

Capello is also one of the few managers that have a name that can attract top players on his own, so we could do a lot worse than him. The long term prospect of getting Capello is however questionable.

Capello would be a better choice than Martinez and AVB.
                Are we winning?

The Wigan boss is principal owner Henry’s preferred choice to succeed Kenny Dalglish and will jet to the US later this week for a meeting with the Fenway Sports Group chief

Roberto Martinez will fly to Boston on Thursday for face-to-face talks with John Henry about becoming Liverpool’s new manager.

Martinez is understood to have met the club’s hierarchy in England over the weekend to discuss the vacant position at Anfield.

The Wigan boss is principal owner Henry’s preferred choice to succeed Kenny Dalglish and will jet to the US later this week for a meeting with the Fenway Sports Group chief.

Henry is keen to assess Martinez in person and feels he ticks all the right boxes to become the Reds’ next boss.

The American is pressing ahead with Martinez, even though the Spaniard has little support among fans who want to see Rafa Benitez return.

Red Rafa? Benitez is keen on returning to Anfield for a second spell in charge
Despite Martinez’s talks with Liverpool, he is not guaranteed to get the job and the Reds still have other names on their shortlist but he will be the first one to be seen personally by Henry.

Liverpool bosses would like to speak to Andre Villas-Boas and are expected to approach him this week.

Villas-Boas was on FSG’s radar before they appointed Dalglish and they have not been put off by his failure at Chelsea.

Liverpool are running out of candidates after Ajax’s Frank de Boer joined Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp in ruling himself out.

De Boer fitted Henry’s profile and has just guided Ajax to back-to-back Dutch titles, but the former Holland midfielder says he wants to remain at the Amsterdam ArenA.

“I am honoured by the request, but I am only just getting started with Ajax,” he said.link

so to sum it up so far:
the media have created the idea that fsg have drawn up a shortlist of 12 people they're going to interview. then they've placed 12 managers on the list. then the local media asked some of those whether they've been contacted yet. they then say, they're happy at their current club. so the media say, yet another one has turned us down.
and rafa the saviour's not on the list. or is he? and everyone's going ape ****.
when in fact that list mightn't even exist. fun times.

Nail on the head. All of this list thing and the turning down of the job is created by the media trying to get some mileage out of the story. Similar happened with Wolves, trouble is that turned out to be true.
