Ye I agree we do have time, but time for what. Is it a quality manager to do great things OR an average manager to drag us further back. I really am worried about the martinez link. He could do very very well, bit I doubt it. Hope I'm wrong and the guy gets it right.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostMate, can you imagine the backlash the owners would have faced if they were caught tapping up another manager while Dalglish was in charge? It would have been Hicks / Gillett mk2.
They've done things the right way. People are panicking as though the season were about to start. We've got time guys. It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

Both were more qualified for those positions than Martinez is for LFC. Pep played for the club for 11 years then managed their B side to a division title. There was a previous connection there that made them believe he was right for the job. Something LFC has done before too.Originally posted by MrNice View PostWas Pep G qualified to manage Barca or AVB Porto ? they did not turn out too badly, he certainly is more qualifed than both of those two candidates and they are the hottest two mangers in world football right now, but your right and everybody who is invloved in football is wrong ... Martinez ... Pffff
AVB was assistant manager under Mourinho during all of his previous successes including at Porto. Honestly, this probably isn't enough to consider him qualified, but there was still a connection there and reason to think Porto knew what they were getting.
Here, Martinez has both a lack of experience and no previous connection to LFC. That doesn't mean there's no chance he would work. There's just nothing except blind faith to give us a reason to think he will be successful.

I'd think if he is to be the new manager Liverpool would announce it first and his first interview would be for liverpool tv..Originally posted by Muddled View PostI've read it as: Martinez has been offered the job and has been set a deadline of tomorrow for a decision. Which ever way he goes, he will inform us and Wigan by tomorrow evening and then announce it to the media on Tuesday.
I can't imagine him calling a press conference on the back of just an interview. As previously mentioned, I also can't imagine him announcing himself as our new manager and would be done through us first. I'd guess we'll call a press conference Tuesday morning if his decision is to come to us.
All in my opinion, obv.
In other words, imo we would be calling shots how the announcement and an interview would be conducted and not him.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

As a I said a few pages back if we don't hear anything from Liverpool before Wigan's press conference I would put money on Martinez staying. There is absolutely no-way Wigan will be allowed to announce he's joining us. We'll be in control of the situation without a shadow of doubt not Wigan. Apparently the owners are coming over to do more interviews this week which makes it even more premature that Martinez is holding a conference to say he is leaving.Originally posted by rcasemore View Post

My bet is during the interview he was told exactly what his role will entail and has been told to go away and consider whether he would be happy to fit into their new structure. I don't believe one bit that he was offered the job without interviewing other candidates.

agree that ayre stayed in the shadows and swerved his responsibilities. this then left kenny to get hung out to dry. piss poor from the top down.Originally posted by Lecter View PostWe dont know what has actually gone on in the background
But a Managing Director should be the figurehead / public face of the company
I've not seen anything from Ayre publicly to suggest hes done enough to stay in his job nevermind get an extension & extra powers
Where was he during Suarez-gate??
Not impressed with Ayre, and his contract extension etc.. is warping my opinion of FSG frankly
where was the direction from fsg?
ayre to move to corporate scrounger, or bin him.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

agree with all of this...Originally posted by acdmackay View PostFor me, you can't judge if he is good enough until he is the manager. He may not be qualified but that doesn't mean to say he can't be a success. Plenty of under-qualified managers have been thrown into a role of managing a big club and been successful. Look at Roberto Di-Matteo. Having managed West Brom you can hardly say he was qualified enough to lead Chelsea to a CL final. It is a high-risk situation to employ a man like Martinez but if they get it right, the people will be praising the owners for a long time to come.
likewise, would di matteo have been able to take west brom to CL win. of course not...
its about the fit between the manager and players, and also having a good squad of players to manage. i believe martinez could be a good fit for us, and if LVG is made DoF then martinez wont be all alone when it comes to youth development, strategy, and future planning. all this experience [from LVG] can only help martinez go on to become a much better, more complete manager for us in the future.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

My concern with Martinez is that....
...he has been at Wigan for a few years and in all that time they have leaked goals.
...as a manager with smaller clubs his starting position going into any game will not have been how to win, it will have been how not to lose. And yet too many teams have found Wigan easy to beat.
...he has no European experience whatsoever. For the time being it is easier for us to progress in Europe than it is domestically because of the sheer amount of money that City, United and Chelsea can spend. If anything we need an European specialist more than we need someone with any track record in the PL.Never knowingly optimistic

I think using this short stint with Chavski to make a judgement on Di matteo will skew a lot of peoples views, he walked into a situation where the players went from not playing for AVB....to wanting to prove they were right to get rid of AVB, and with a run of games coming up that could win them big trophies.
Motivation was never a problem for Di Matteo, so all this credit he keeps getting for 'pulling the group together' is a bit much imo.Last edited by Vermilion; 27-05-12, 07:54 PM.

Really think Guardiola will end up at Chavski.Originally posted by Phoenix06 View PostI reckon we'll hear something tomorrow through the press either way. Stuff like this gets leaked regardless of the information. Even Pep Guardiola's decision on his future was leaked the day before his press conference.
