No Sporting Director/Director of Football is a bit concerning - very odd to change the plan now just to accomodate Brendan Rodgers?

You think Levy has spent a penny of his own cash at Spurs? They make a profit every year.Oh I don't know.

It was a mish mash of 'let's try this and let's try that'. A settled system, players bought to fit into that system, a clearly defined pattern of play and a more intelligent style of play i.e. controlling the game, slowing tempo when required.
That will do for me next season just like many fans were satisfied with Rafa's first season before we won the Champions League.
I want signs over the course of the season that we are improving as a team with a coherent system and style.

i dont think rodgers will ask for a lot of money because almost to a player liverpool have a better squad than swansea.Originally posted by Macedonian_Red View PostAnd in order to beat the current top 5 teams to a CL spot, FSG need to spend their own money (lots of it) on the improvement of the team, just like the owners of City or Spurs have done over the past 5 years ... There might be one or two but i dont think we will be buying any superstars this season or any big name players. he might be looking to bring in a right sided player or he might go with sterling, and he will probably be looking at the centre of midfield with someone like diame or even joe allen.
But come January, i think that rodgers will have had enough time to analyse the squad and he will probably make another one or two signings there.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

It sounds like it's going to be broken down into:Originally posted by john316 View PostNo Sporting Director/Director of Football is a bit concerning - very odd to change the plan now just to accomodate Brendan Rodgers?
- Glorified Scout
- Administration
- Conduit between First Team/Academy (Segura?)
Who the first two will be is debatable. Since Van Gaal is likely to be out of the question, then surely Txiki fills the first one and Dein/Barwick fills the second?
Rodgers will still have final say on transfers and style of play in conjunction with the "Glorified Scout".

all that and with a minimum of 65 points is something to build on for the following season.Originally posted by Kenneth View Post

That would make sense, although I thin he'll do some business in the summer, maybe one marque signing.Originally posted by el matador View Posti dont think rodgers will ask for a lot of money because almost to a player liverpool have a better squad than swansea.

We need a proper administrator for the club who can take care of day to day matters. We need a proper head scout who will identify and negotiate for players and we need a technical / football director who will help integrate the same footballing philosophy throughout the club from academy to first team.
Administrator - run the off pitch business
Chief scout - scout and sign players, deal with players contracts
technical director - help produce a continuous supply of high quality young players ready to contribute to the first team squad.
Its very difficult for one person to accomplish all of these roles. In fact its impossible.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Spurs have invested over £180 million NET in new players, over the 5 seasons prior to their first CL qualification in 2010 ... I agree that they are a well run club, but their profits are nowhere near that level ... There was definitely an outside investment by the owners ... By the way, Levy is not the principal owner ... He is only a minority shareholder and an Executive Chairman of the club ... The principal owner is Joe Lewis ...Originally posted by dom9 View PostNo they don't.

I agree with that ... Probably one of the main reasons why are they appointing him ...Originally posted by el matador View Posti dont think rodgers will ask for a lot of money because almost to a player liverpool have a better squad than swansea.

would you trust a young manager who has never bought at the top level before to spend 15-20m on one player - especially since we dont have a chief scout who can tell rodgers of the players we've been tracking and why. I wouldnt lec.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostThat would make sense, although I thin he'll do some business in the summer, maybe one marque signing.
Its going to be tough for rodgers because the vast majority of his squad will be missing for large periods of the season and he wont be able to make a proper judgement on them unless he's seen them in training.
I think we need another centre forward, a central midfield defensive / ball winning type player and a wide right player with pace.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

That is not huge in the current climate if you have little debt and even occasional CL football.Oh I don't know.

i dont think that FSG are scared to spend money but its got to be spent wisely which we havent.Originally posted by Macedonian_Red View PostI agree with that ... Probably one of the main reasons why are they appointing him ...
Rodgers first job will be to spend the three weeks or so he's got before everyone else comes back with jose enrique and helping him get used to the pass - move - pass style that he likes.
He will be the one who struggles the most in this system.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

They "need" to spend decent money. Which they've done so far. However they simply are not going to spend like City. Nobody ever has spent like City. in 2010 City's wages alone were more than 110% of their entire income I read yesterday. They lost £194.5m in a year ffs. That's simply ridiculous and asking our owners, or 98% of football club owners, to spend like that, is absurd.
As for Spurs.... do you actually know what their total net spending has been in the last 5 years? About £40m. Link. Oddly that's pretty much exactly FSG's net with us in the last 18 months.
There is no reason at all to believe that enough funding will be available to us to make us competitive IF our manager buys wisely, brings through youth wisely, and puts together a team that works well as a unit. Asking anything more than that from your team, in anything other than massively unusual circumstances, means you have a vastly unrealistic sense of entitlement imo.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
