My biggest "wonder" is what would've happened had Rafa not been sacked, and had been in charge come the arrival of the new owners, and then had the equivalent money to spend that Kenny did..... but I don't want to send this thread down the path of another Rafa debate
If the owners were well advised Rafa would have been back
Hmmm. Maybe my memory is letting me down, but I recall a fair amount of people being pretty excited with the Joe Cole signing at the time (myself included).
And a lot of people thought that for the money we paid, Adam would prove a good signing.
Obviously no one thought they would be world beaters, but lets not kid ourselves into thinking we all knew they'd be (arguably) ****e.
Except Downing
Except I wasn't excited by Joe Cole.
I thought Adam and Downing might be ok purely on the basis of giving Dalglish the benefit of the doubt - just because I couldn't see why he was buying them, I assumed he could be right and I (and many other posters whose assessments, in fairness to them, were far more damning than mine) could be missing something. Unfortunately he wasn't and I wasn't. FFFFFFFS sake, even Nigey wasn't and he's a moron.
I still think Henderson might be ok. But we overpaid for all of them, that's certain.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
If we had signed Cole for £5m and paid him £50,000 a week I dont think people would have been too upset. So it needs some perspective. Obviously there is the signing on fee. But it wouldnt have been bad business.

I was happy with the Cole signing, at the time it was a bit of a coup getting him in
Whilst we do need better players than Adam and Cole coming in we also need to make sure the squad isn't so threadbare that if & when we get some injuries we've got little to no replacements available.

It's funny really. Getting Adam, Cole and Carroll seemed like coup's at the time partly because we beat Spurs to the punch. They have been so ridiculously jammy to have dodged those bullets.
I'm happy to admit that I was excited at the signing of Joe Cole.
He's made a cunt out of me.
I was quite cautious and said plenty of times that he needed to prove his fitness before I was convinced. I then watched him against the mighty RoboCopniki and was fooled into thinking we had pulled a masterstroke.
I didn’t want Carroll at any price.
Didn’t think we needed Henderson.
Wasn’t sure about Adam but thought he was worth a punt at that price.
Thought Downing would have been very good for us.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
