Hopefully it doesnt take us too long to adapt to this 'philosophy'. Today i saw pretty much the opposite from what rodgers has described. We couldnt pass and we failed to keep possession of the ball & 'recycle' play. Eventually it will get better and i reckon we will be ok...those high hopes of breaking into the top 4 again i/we had pre season have all but gone...although it is still early in the season.

Today we passed, but we did not move. It was dreadful to watch. Arsenal showed us how it is done, sad to say.

The thing is though if you look at it in terms of both quality and price the gap should be even wider, our figures are somewhat skewed by the presence of Downing and Henderson, who are nowhere near worth what we paid for them, but they add ~£36m to that figure, if you also consider than Man Utd have 6 players that came through their youth system (compared to our 4) and you can see that they have spent alot of money per player assembling that squad. The big difference for me though is that Man Utd sign players for big money who improve their team, where as we have spent big money on players who have contributed very little (Downing, Henderson, Carroll etc) Those three contributed about 40% of the cost of our squad (in terms of transfer fees) but their contribution on the pitch is negligable.Originally posted by Suarez View PostI've just been looking at a few figures, mostly the cost of our squad and that of Utd. By my figures starting 11 and bench for us cost approximately £133m, Utd's £175m. I've got to say, I thought the gap would've been greater but then Rooneys out and we pretty much had our best players out, so normally the gap would be around £70m.
Wrong thread (supposed to be the FSG gloves are off thread)

hey totally agree love for BR to be a successOriginally posted by dww View PostThis has to be seen as a long term project. If we are in relegation trouble come January perhaps we will have to consider a change. In all realistic situations we need to persevere. Finances hamstrung any attempt at a complete refresh and Rodgers was bought in to implement his philosophy throughout the club. If we keep chopping and changing after a few bad results we will end up in a long term decline.

oh one more thing if our form does no improve and we scrape through this season literally then if there's no proper investment for rodgers can see the squad cherry picked of it's best players and sold or players upping and leaving.........sure hope the players get their **** together and quick,we have a good first team which just needs to gel

IMO we weren't that bad against Arsenal. People are talking as if it were a catastrophic defeat. To me there were definite positives - we kept the ball well in parts of the game, we worked it into decent areas (we got a lot of corners that way). The only real issue that I see continuing is the lack of cutting edge. I think a lot of the rest will disappear as we get used to the new system and way of playing."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I don't think he will be a success, I just don't have the confidence in him. What is it that others see that I don't. This isn't a dig at Rodgers it is actually a genuine question. I understand we all want him to be a success,it would be a dream come true I.e a young manager and with us for years to come. But I just don't see where all the confidence in him is come from. Any ideas?Originally posted by Bender View Posthey totally agree love for BR to be a successIt's a prediction thread on a wish list.

Suarez was utter wank and generally is most games.Originally posted by reds123 View Postgerrard and Suarez were a bit tired imo after thursday
He saved us against hearts with guess what.. a solo goal. He missed the two sitters he got earlier.. surprise surprise.
We sold the wrong striker. Ironically Carroll with his dodgy touch and questionable mobility would be more effective because at least he can hang on the ball and bring people into the game.
Apart from Joe Allen and discovering sterling we are no better off than last season because we are limited to the selfishness and wastefulness of our front man.

I agree Dave. We were poor at chasing a game from behind against a good counter attacking team. Before we went behind we were pretty good, although borini and Suarez were ****e which blunted our threat in the final third. There were definitely positives, but Rodgers's inability to reshape the formation when it wasn't working was a pretty major negative, apart from the individual errors of course.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Getting beat by Arsenal at home ... happens to the best teams in the world
We played some very nice stuff again .. but we really do miss a stick it in the Onion bag man up front and right across the pitch very few of these technically gifted players know how to stick the ball into the back of the net consistently ... it says a lot when you can say Skirtel is one of our biggest goal treatsAnybody who criticizes Klopp ever is a James Blunt. Arsenal took their few chances and we were just completely blunt going forward. It was only when Shelvey came on that we (well, he) started having pops at goal.
The rest of the game was pretty evenly balanced.

we're still releasing the ball far too early and we're still looking for the killer pass far too early. patience is a virtue and keeping possession until the right moment comes takes time and tactical understanding and awareness.
we've not played like that for many years, if ever.
it will take time but we'll get there.
having said that, our squad is definitely too thin and some players need a rest. especially suarez and gerrard who are guilty of making the wrong the decisions and give the ball away too often. and reina who doesn't seem right mentally.

That seems a fair criticism but I wonder how much of that is due to us still being in a phase of trying to adapt to plan A. Working on a plan B might detract from that and until we have the basics of how Rodger wants to play down changes might have to be limited. To be fair the introduction of Shelvey and Downing led to more chances - so he wasn't unable to change the game with his substitutes.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostI agree Dave.
