Dunno. They claimed it was an exclusive though.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Even though today's revelations surpassed most people's expectations it has been such a depressing day. It's hard to accept that almost half the people who lost their lives could have been saved given proper medical attention. Incredibly upsetting. I cannot imagine how devastated the families of the 96 must feel today. It's been a remarkable day, but there's nothing to celebrate. I just hope that the people in authority on that day are brought to account. They got away with it lightly before, I hope they're ****ting themselves now.

My thoughts initially go to the families of the 96. This is their day. I sincerely hope that this long overdue release of information can help them come to terms with their loss..
For the second tier 'sufferers' such as myself, who has been a liverpool supporter from a distance, I sincerely hope that proper prosecutions now follow. If some of the senior police officers preferred suicide, I doubt I would shed a tear... 23 years is a long time... time to have a family, and that was denied to 96 people out for an afternoon of football... 164 changes to statements??? surely the lawyers involved should be publicly flogged, then executed...
(possibly) joking aside, we, as a society, are only as strong as the weakest parts... and if the 'authorities' can be so cavalier with the truth, then we have no hope... Roll on the revolution...

Peace be with the 96 and their families...

i saw some of the earlier coverage on tv, the families and committee at the cathedral and camerons speech, etc, and was choked. i was trying to explain the events to the mrs as they were reported but i was close to tears and couldnt speak properly.

we was driving back from wales late this evening and i had to do a slight de-tour to pass by Anfield and park up by the Memorial to pay my respects. the bbc were just setting up for a live link, and later saw the people there on newsnight.

we might now finally have justice for the 96. now we need to see justice seek out the filth that have perpetuated this lie and see them face prosecution for their part in this collaboration and deceit.

removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Today has been hugely significant. No more cover-ups, no more lies. The families of the 96 deserve massive respect for keeping faith and never giving up hope.

The Truth: Kop idols Dalglish, Fowler and Lawrenson on the Hillsborough report

As the facts emerge from 23 years of smears and lies, three Liverpool FC greats give their reaction to the shocking revelations about the disaster

Kenny Dalglish, Robbie Fowler and Mark Lawrenson have all written their names into the DNA of Liverpool Football Club.

Here, they share their reactions to the damning findings of a two-year independent investigation into the Hillsborough disaster, and South Yorkshire Police's "monumental cover-up" of their failings on that awful day.

"It's a start... but the fight is not over"

Regarded by many as Liverpool's greatest ever player, Kenny Dalglish IS Liverpool Football Club to many more. As a player, he helped the club win five league titles and three European Cups. In two spells as manager, he delivered a league/FA Cup double, two more league titles, another FA Cup and a League Cup.

The events of yesterday means the dignified search for justice has been given a platform to build on.

The sad thing is that 41 of the victims could have been saved and for their families there was obviously great upset.

The Prime Minister spoke very well, and MPs Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram have done a fantastic job at getting the release of the papers brought forward, while great credit should also go to the panel when you consider how much information they had to work through.

The aims remain the same for the families and their search to see justice done goes on.

A start would be for the death certificates and the coroner’s report to be changed from accidental death to unlawful killing.

However, it was a very encouraging day and a big step towards eventual closure.

                      "The despair has never lifted"

Robbie Fowler was born in Toxteth, Liverpool. He played over 300 times for Liverpool in two spells between 1993 and 2007, scoring 182 goals.

I was a kid of 14 training with Liverpool a couple of times a week when Hillsborough happened.

I wasn’t there that day but I still feel the nightmare of it all like it was yesterday.

I remember going to the club the next day and sensing the pain. A despair settled on the city that never truly lifted.

Like so many others, I knew people who were at Hillsborough, and I spent hours waiting for news about my friends, family and team-mates.

They were desperate hours. Yet in a way the years that followed have been almost as bad.

The fans were the innocent victims of a tragedy caused by the criminal neglect of the people you believed were there to protect you. But for 23 years the fans were portrayed as responsible for the disaster, effectively branded murderers.

I was told The Sun a few years ago said it was time for our city to move on.

                      Priceless.

We now have some of the truth but not all the answers. We can’t rest until we identify those behind so many fateful decisions – such as holding the game at Hillsborough, then not allowing ambulances on the pitch – and ask them to explain themselves.

                      Then we can move on.

"This is vindication for the families"

Mark Lawrenson played in Liverpool's defence from 1981-88, helping the Reds win the European Cup, five league championships, the FA Cup and three League Cups.

Within a few minutes of David Cameron speaking, you just knew.

Everyone involved with the fight for justice around Hillsborough just knew.

The city of Liverpool, the football club, all the supporters and – most importantly – the victims’ families. They would have all felt vindicated.

They have had to wait 23 years and so many of them must have felt, at times, like giving up.

But finally they got to hear from the Prime Minister yesterday what they already knew.

The detail was shocking – 164 statements were doctored, blame forced on fans by police and lives that could have been saved.

                      It defies belief.

It was just so easy for the police to say that fans were drunk, charged gates and pick-pocketed fans who were dead or lying injured.

And as we know sections of the media jumped on the whole thing. But all the families have ever asked has been for the truth to come out.

But to have to wait 23 years is quite honestly ridiculous. It makes you worry there were people in government delaying this for as long as possible as they knew what really happened.

But the families waited. And fought.

And have been rewarded with all they ever asked for – the truth.

Great to see that finally the truth is being acknowledged over the lies previously made up by the police.

I admire people like Trevor Hicks who have had the strength to fight for 23 years after losing two daughters.

Really hope those who took part in the corruption are sent to prison for the remainder of their lives.

Such a sad day. I'm in work at the minute but am in bits and cant stop crying about all of this. I'm going to go down to Anfield after work and lay some flowers. Watching my dad last night was hard as his friend was killed at hillsborough and seeing the emotions he was going through last night as we all were was a long time coming.

The truth is out and justice must follow!

I never came in here yesterday as things were pretty emotional. I will take time to read through this thread though but probably at the weekend.

I don't know (can't remember mentioning it anyway) if I have ever mentioned it but I lost my 19 year old cousin at Hillsborough. 23 years on and we finally know what happened to cause his very preventable death.

I wasn't at the cathedral but my Dad was and he couldn't put into words how emotional a day it was. I am sure you can all imagine.

It's a massive relief. Not just to know what happened but to get the people of the city of Liverpool exonerated from any blame.

My hope now is that we all continue with the same dignity moving forward and hope that it takes a lot less than 23 years to bring those who are accountable to justice. The amount this has been covered up surpassed even my wildest nightmares.

RIP David and the 95 others.
