I wish I was as convinced by Mignolet as everyone else. Good shot stopper for sure but he worries me constantly with every other aspect of his game.

The way we are playing at the minute Sturridge and Suarez are absolutely vital. We don't seem to systematically create many chances. For me a key player to improving that is Johnson as he allows us to move higher up the pitch as a team as well as giving width.

I'm with you 100% on that one. There is a hell of a lot more to goalkeeping than shot stopping and that is the only thing he is good at.

With regards to Mig, the only memorable moments so far have actually been game saving and point winning moments. Yes he has had the odd ropey moment but I cannot recall a costly mistake so far. Therefore he has improved us this season and will only get better, much like many others in our team. They are going to grow and improve together.

this time last year Reina was letting goals in regularlyish that he should have been saving. Mig has saved some that he's had no right to save & as Tee said, he's had a few Rooney moments but we haven't been punished for that. We'll only get better as a unit.

Soz to steal your thunder, Bender.

Joe Allen returns on the Saturday, 19 October 2013 at approximately 0915.

I agree with all that, was going to add Johnson as an important player for those reasons, I don't think people appreciate him when he's playing, but as soon as he's missing you notice what we lose.

I think that Mignolet is a better shot stopper than Reina, but as you say there are other aspects of his game that need work.

Newcastle probably too soon for him, maybe get a decent run out against West Brom.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Cheers M. I'm expecting Bender to be along anytime this week now.

We're obviously working on his distribution as he's not kicking the ball anywhere near as much. Let's face it, Reins is one of the very best at distribution and any keeper after him is going to look poor in comparison. Other aspects of his game are clear improvements though

Yeah one would hope that the more he uses his feet the better he'll get. I've heard it said that the best keepers start out as decent outfield players so they can use their feet well when needed.

I'd add Coutinho to the list too. His absence induced our mini 'slump' of results against Swansea and Southampton until Suarez returned and we readjusted.

Despite what he offers going forward, it's 8 clean sheets in his last 10 starts and no clean sheets in the 3 he's missed. Can't wait to get him back in the side.
