Yeah, the ruthlessness is the only area I would put Torres clearly ahead, but given that Torres had far more game time throughout his career up to a similair age (wasn't he Atleti captain at 18?) I think that might come from Sturridge yet.

The variety of goals Sturridge has is phenomenal and goes hand in hand with his high levels of technique - he's scoring tap ins, solo goals, clinical long range exocets, lobs, headers and even with his hand

I'm not usually one for getting giddy at such an early stage, but I think the Sturridge and LFC thing is massively mutual - he's getting the adoration now, and he probably thought he's deserved that chance at other clubs.

If he had never been at Chelsea and was showing this level of form, they'd be looking at him as a potential long term Torres successor. Abramovich ****ed that one up royally. Cheers Roman!

He's not the best until he makes a donkey out of Vidic and scores an from an overhead kick.

Every time he plays against him, like Torres did

Torres almost immediately when he signed for us became such a scary proposition for defenders you could clearly see some of them crumble when they came up against him, that hasn't happened for Sturridge. As Shaggy mentions, Torres was more clinical too, you'd bank on him to score in any 1-on-1 situation. His partnership with Gerrard was very special at times.

Sturridge however scores a greater variety of goals and works harder - plus he can also do a job out wide (not that I'm for one moment suggesting he goes wide). He can play as a one or along side a partner, so gives the manager more options. I don't think he's likely to angle for a move either, I sense he knows the size of the club and the challenge and is committed to it.

He's better than Torres at the same stages in their careers, and if he continues on the same trajectory, he will be better than peak Torres.

He has more to his game than him - his all round game is better (first touch, distance shooting and passing), his physicality is better, his attitude (atm) is better. I'm not sure he has the dead eyed ruthlessness of Torres, or whether having Suarez at the same club is lifting him, but that doesn't matter. Torres had peak Gerrard.

I love the fact he's taking his opportunity and he's playing with such enthusiasm and energy. January was a mindblowing transfer window, it really was.
Sorry I don't really agree with some of this, I think we forget how good Torres was when he first came, I personally felt he was catching fake Ronaldo in terms of quality before the injuries started

His speed, touch and strength were incredible for his shape and size, it seems strange to say this now though but his perhaps best quality I felt was his attitude and will to win, right from his first home game against Chelsea he scored such an elegant goal (perhaps my favourite goal he scored for us for some reason) but would not take any **** from Terry either who attempted to bully him early on, Torres really was a warrior initially for us, he took a kicking a Reading a few days later and answered them with a hat trick

This is no slight against Sturridge who seems to have a great attitude himself and doing very well but I don't think he is right up there fighting to be the top striker in the world as Torres became when he first arrived

That all said, it would be interesting to see how Sturridge would have got on in our side back when "we got the best midfield in the world" was sung

When I watch this below, his speed, composure and strength look superb

Torres was a very special player at Liverpool.....so much so that now his move to Chelsea has made him a well not a hate figure but very much despised, for me he was an amazing finisher/goal scorer one of the very best ever...Sturridge has a long way to go to reach that level but he's doing very well so far very well

THAT Fernando Torres was really something else, it's a real shame how things panned out.

Saying that though, we currently have one of the best partnerships ever seen in the PL, a strike partnership that can win you the league.

true, I think it was the betrayal that I felt. he reminds me of a past relationship, there is a fondness there, still a little hurt, but right now we are in a better place and in sturridge we have a class player with a great attitude and who know maybe we will win the league with him at some point

                      @ Dirk07

btw, my Sturridge post was no slight on Torres. I haven't forgotten how amazing he was, I was a whining fanboi when he left and enraged when he was replaced with Hippo Carroll. Its more an endorsement of how highly I rate Daniel.

Torres shone in the best side Liverpool had since the late eighties. I have no doubt he would still be scoring if he had kept his head and stayed, but I don't think he would be able to play as effectivel as Sturridge in the system we have now.

Sturridge can adapt, Torres is proven to struggle when a system is tweaked and it doesn't play specifically to his strengths.

looking at that Torres video it's startling how good he was and how far he has fallen. Daniel will get quite close to that level but he won't surpass it.

I'd forgotten just how deadly Torres was for us. He was for a couple of seasons the outstanding centre forward in Europe, simply amazing goal scorer.

Sturridge for me has more to his game that Torres had but he's not the clinical finisher that we saw with Torres in those couple of seasons.

I do think he can surpass what Torres gave us though, I mean just look at his stats since he's been here!

Torres had years more top level, first team football than Sturridge at the same age. The ruthlessness will come, I think.
