England make all the players go and get assessed by their own medical staff I think, even if the club says they are injured.

Sturridge could easily have said he wasn't feeling right. They know he's got a knock so it would have been him pushing to get a game tomorrow

Pretty moronic really. Suarez isn't back until Thursday night and we have a lunchtime kick off on Saturday in a huge game. Here you have 2 key players pushing themselves to make a pointless friendly game.

They want to play in the World Cup, it's naive to think they won't do anything and everything to make sure that happens.

If he picks up a long term injury though, it's only going to hamper his chances of playing in the World Cup. If he's knocking in a goal a game at club level or a goal every other game, he's on that plane. It's simple really.

Is someone saying that Gerrard isn't guaranteed to go to the World Cup if he misses almost every friendly between now and then?

The game against Chile showed that the back-up players aren't really up to scratch anyway.

countless times utd players in the past have pulled out of england games then been fit for the weekend prem games, our player have pain killing injections for pointless friendlies, knowing lfc's luck we'll be without Sturridge, gerrard and suarez for the everton game

Gerrard is different though, he'll be in the squad if fit regardless. I guess with Sturridge he's still trying to cement his place.

Don't get me wrong I'm not happy with it either but he must have felt ok to be there and I can see why he'd want to play, I mean how many opportunities do you get to go to a World Cup, not many.

We might not like international football but I think most footballers still see it as the pinnacle, to represent your country

At the end of the day I get the whole wanting to play in a world cup and for your country. But if I were Rodgers I'd be drumming into every player that this season is potentially massive for the club. Club must come first. If they do the goods for the club then injuries permitting they'll get picked for England.

Sturridge seems to be the sort of player always carrying knocks. He'll never be 100%. If fit then he should be allowed to play, 50/50 over of any doubts, then sorry son, we pay your wages and gave you a chance to shine, club first. If he sulks, sell him.

Gerrard probably doesn't owe us anything so it should be his choice, but again, he knows his body and surely not playing would be more beneficial to the team?

                  Its disappointing if understandable.

3 points on Saturday should be the main thing on all our players minds.

I can see what you're saying. I personally don't give a toss about international football so guess people like me find this kind of thing pretty annoying. Guess it's when being a fan of the club really takes over and not getting what footballers do sometimes.

Neither do I, it interferes with my watching of the PL but I guess if I was a top footballer I'd want to play for my country as well.

International breaks are never good for us, either get sodding injuries or they break up a run of good form

Yeah I think we've been pretty average after an international break this season. Southampton and Newcastle? Not sure of any others
