16 year career and only 320 appearances......it would appear they defo have the same injury genes!!

Daniel Sturridge is targeting his return for Liverpool against Manchester United in just a month's time.

England striker Sturridge has been given the all-clear to return to training within the next fortnight after missing virtually all last season.

Sturridge was told he could be out until November after undergoing surgery in New York in May to solve his chronic hip problem.

But the 25-year-old has remained in the States since then to go through an intensive rehabilitation process, and that has paid dividends with the green light to return to training much sooner than expected.

He will fly back to the UK this weekend to complete his rehab, before joining his team-mates towards the end of the month to begin full training.

And if all goes well, he can target the visit to Old Trafford on September 12 as his comeback date.

Sturridge hasn't played since the FA Cup win at Blackburn in April.

Serious hip, thigh and calf problems restricted him to just 18 appearances last season.

While Sturridge is plotting his return to the side, youngster Jordon Ibe has done enough in pre-season to grab a starting place for the opening weekend visit to Stoke, after impressing in the friendly games.

Ibe seems certain to get the nod ahead of £45m pair Lazar Markovic and Adam Lallana as boss Brendan Rodgers unveils a new-look front line led by summer signing Christian Benteke.

The Reds' manager has confirmed he will give the 19-year-old a major opportunity this season, and Ibe explained he has developed fast over the summer after doing extra sessions with Academy boss Alex Inglethorpe — and Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish.

Ibe was hailed as the new Raheem Sterling after making his debut in the Mersey derby last season, and he believes his early return this summer has pushed him on a step.

“The manager suggested I do some extra training and I'm definitely feeling the benefits of that," he said.

"I have to give a lot of credit to Alex, and of course it was great to come in and work with someone like Kenny.

“I know I'm only young, but in my position I need to have an end-product. If I'm not getting a goal, I need to be getting an assist for one of my team-mates or making sure I have a great game.

“They're the things I am working on to try and do regularly. Hopefully I'll see the benefit from doing that.”

Good news, can't see him being fully match fit until pushing Christmas time though which is a shame, and that's assuming he doesn't get injured again. Luckily we have big Chris

He'll be pushing Ingsy for that 4th place striker spot.

I have always been a supporter of sturridge but I wonder if we should look to cash in on him once he is back and if he gets to the end of the season still unbroken.
surely its only a matter of time before the next 3-6 month injury lay off and he is a big wage.

No way we should imo. When he is fit he has such ability. The gamble in trying to fix him is worth it because if you do, you genuinely have a top quality, complete striker that can score consistently and ranks with the best in Europe.

Those players nowadays seem to cost somewhere within the 35-55 mil bracket.

Sturridge likely to be back in September.
                      And out October-March.

Mario> Borini>Benteke>Ingsy>Sturridge - some comeback to be made - and Origi is not even in the picture!

If he comes back and starts being Billy big bollocks again and dancing around with the ball I will go mental. Not sure if it was the lack of pace last season but he was forever ball juggling, and hogging the ball. Get it, move it on first time, get on the end of the cross and goal. Simple. Trying to beat an opponent over and over and slowing down the play is a cunts trick. Go on Sturridge come back fit and score some ****ing goals.

It's an interesting point, as he has been out so long all the teams we've all put together have been 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 with Benteke the focal point of the attack and Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana and Ibe etc as support strikers in the wider areas, Sturridge has played as a wide forward at Chelsea but was unhappy there and came here to play through the middle, when Sturridge and Benteke are both fit would we alternate the two in the types of formation suggested, play one (probably Sturridge) out of position or go to a 4-4-2?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yeah it was irritating. He was ultra-selfish. Not sure he can afford to mess around this time as he's got real competition for his place now. Perform or he'll stay on the bench.
