My uncle used to live in Adelaide. Couple of times I visited him when there was a southerly wind blowing. No air con needed on those days even in high summer.
Cairns is in the southern hemisphere and has a tropical climate. It's summer when it's your winter. We also have monsoonal rains (although we're going through a very dry summer again...)
