Rodgers must see this in Coates in training everyday. He looked slow and cumbersome against Mansfield. Though good with the ball at his feet he reminded me of Andy Carroll's mobility all game - not a good sign.

Kudos to Rodgers for getting the right balance in the game to ensure we won and avoided a replay.
    One tit for another.

Some good stuff and some bad. Him and Carra dont suit eachother which never helps.

Rogers did not get the balance right at all if that was the case why were we battered for most of the game Henderson should of started in place of Allen

The most simplest of games we should ever have played, ends up with us scraping through and looking like the ****s again.

The way Allen is performing if he continues like this he should be replaced in the summer. No way should he be the main man in our midfield for years to come based on this season so far.

"Battered" for most of the game? I'd more accurately say that we were "on the back foot" for what can only be a maximum of about 20mins...

We always make it harder than it should be when we play lower devision teams.

I.e. he gave everyone a chance. And changed it when it was obvious it needed changing (unlike a certain Rafa who would have waited until the 75th minute )

Then he brought on seniors that would take charge of the game and we had more than enough breaks to have scored 5. The only downer is Wisdom's cramp, hope that's all it was as we're gonna need him.

I'm the biggest Allen supporter on these forums. Still am. But he has been worse than a small skinny one-paced Sunday League player.

There was mention of his pelvis still not having recovered (God knows what from) and he is off the pace, etc.

From what I've seen in pretty much every game, he looks a bit cumbersome with an erratic first touch. He's not very quick either.

Can't help but think that the aforementioned quotes are buying him time. Remember, Babb was the best defender in the 94 World Cup....

To be fair, Lucas wasn't much better. Shelvey started out well but was v poor second half. Coates was outmuscled non league strikers all game.

                          **** performance on a **** pitch in a **** town on a **** tv channel against a **** side.

We're through to the next round though, and that's all that matters on a day like this. Also a positive that Sturridge scored on his debut and showed good movement.

Really not worth over-analysing it, plenty of top sides struggle in games like this - that's exactly why it was picked for TV, they could smell an upset (or at least a scrappy hard fought cup-tie like they got). As long as we got through it means nothing in the big scheme of things.

                            Sums it up perfectly.

Yeah, but what are we gonna talk about now?

Highlight of the day was the guy taking their long throws. About eight feet tall, throws the ball about half a mile, first name Exodus, surname the same as the bad guy in Total Recall. Basically a Bond villain playing non-League football. I bet he lives in a hollowed out volcano just outside Mansfield. Legend.
