For us to kick on to be consistently top 4 Coutinho needs to produce more goals and assists that win points.
The signs are that he's becoming more consistent under Klopp but when you compare him to Lallana or Firmino (for example) he isn't miles better or more effective (in outcome) yet doesn't get anywhere near the same level of scrutiny or criticism from supporters.
He's a talented player that I would like to see produce more week in, week out, that's hardly a dislike.
That’s very good of you to add some balance, except the only one of those 3 to get any grief for the past 4 months has been Coutinho, mostly from you. Not to mention you were beating this Coutinho drum long before Firmino signed and when Lallana actually was ****.
So you think he deserves more scrutiny. Well let’s look at his goals. He’s scored 8 goals in 25 matches in the league (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/...ue/top-scorers). A goal every 239 minutes, which is the 3rd best for a midfielder in the league behind Sanchez, Firmino (forwards arguably) and Mahrez (a phenomenon this year). Hardly terrible now, especially for someone so poor in that department.
His assists return admittedly is pretty poor, but again looking at this season he creates a chance for a team mate every 42.51 minutes, compared to Mahrez (45.72), Sanchez (40.62), Firmino (40.23) and Lallana (42.39). Not much between them really, so again a little unfair to criticise too much, especially when you consider lovely balls like the one to Benteke for our goal on Saturday won’t register as anything.
His work rate also comes into question and comparing to Lallana and Firmino (couldn’t be arsed checking the rest) he isn’t as influential, however if you don’t see the vast improvement in that department under Klopp, then you are watching a different game.
Look, if every time Coutinho goes two games without scoring you want to come on here and label him inconsistent and not good enough, that’s fine, but don’t pretend you are doing it from an objective viewpoint or comparing him fairly to other players.Last edited by RedReet; 10-05-16, 09:17 AM.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

TBH, reading back it comes across as gibberish. I lost my original reply in the Watford post-match, so it sort of lost all context when I rewrote and moved it here. Shouldn’t matter, I’m sure 90% of fans already know just how good Coutinho is and can see the improvement under Klopp.Originally posted by Rowan View PostThese are all facts!
What was surprising was just how good Firmino’s stats were. You could argue that he was helped by not playing much under Rodgers, so only started racking up minutes when we were playing better under Klopp, but equally he picked up an injury at a bad time ( was on a 3 game scoring streak) and took a while to get sharp again, so conceivably his stats could have been even better. He’s going to be some player next year.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The one reason we have kept him this long is he's inconsistent. If he ever made the step up to big game changer / world class he would be at real or barca quicker than you can say cunt. That's football in 2016.
Unless you are rich, you buy cheaply, improve said player and if said player is **** you end up loaning him back to a smaller club in his home country that never has any intention of signing him or if he turns great you lose him to a team in that magnificent competition known as the champions league where said player will invariably end up on the bench week after week. It's wonderful.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde
