I think we are back to the harsh reality that this is going to be a tough journey. Hopefully with more highs than lows.

I think that people generally tend to overeact whatever the result. A convincing win and we're dreaming of top 4 again. A frustrating loss, and it's back to the drawing board / slashed wrists. A draw, and it's a long journey ahead.

This is why I've said that I'll form my opinion at the end of the season. Too many people (IMO) (and this is not aimed at you) form and change their opinions on the 'project' game by game without looking at the bigger picture.

I have to laugh though. You get a lot of people on forums and twitter that before games build it all up saying we're going to smash West Ham, "fancy us to score 4 goals today" etc then when we don't go to the opposite extreme and talk a load of old crap and want everyone sacked, players sold etc

When a manager takes over there's always a period of inconsistency in most cases. To be honest at the moment, I don't face any game with 100% belief that we'll win, regardless of who it is. It's just the way it is. Not unique to Rodgers' team. It's been like that for years, even under Rafa. We regularly dropped points like that. I think it will take a long time to get to where we want to be and a lot of patience.

Not going to sit here and say we're an inexperienced team because we aren't. But think there needs to be some more quality injected into the squad and a bit more steel too. I can cope with the result yesterday as I see it as a long term strategy, not a short-term fix. We're so far from where we want to be and the competition for Top 4 is a lot fiercer than what it has ever been

BTW, we had more shots on target than any other team this weekend.

Even at our best during Rafa's reign we lacked that something extra to set us apart from the rest. We do need that extra quality, no doubts - just a couple more potential gamechangers/match winners.

Spot on Dom, there's never no middle ground just overreaction either way! Personally I think there's progress yet our defence has been very poor along with a weak midfield in many games.. Also I think our players over think the Rodgers so called style at times in always wanting that easy pass and that losses any urgency going forward...

With the signing of Coutinho and Sturridge I think we're looking to address that. For far too long we've relied on Gerrard and a striker, be it Suarez or Torres. That's been our problem. Either of the two have a bad game, we'd never win. Likes of Coutinho and Sturridge will need time. If we can add in Eriksen to that and another attacking option plus a calm midfield presence (you know who I'm talking about ), and address the defence, we'll improve further

Spot on Sarb. FSG may not like it but we need a decent investment again this summer to achieve those targets.

Think the summer will prove exactly what FSGs plans are for the club, with massive money coming from the tv deals they need big investment to be realistic about top four as everyone above with the exception of Everton will have decent cash to spend... Not to mention trying to keep luis at the club...

my point was that experience alone counts for nothing, as we have seen.
we've played some of the best football i've seen us play for years. for the first time in years you can see a proper plan in our play even if it doesn't come off every game.
we've got to accept where we were this summer and where the like of tottenham, chelsea, arsenal, city and united were. years ahead in building a proper squad, that is.
should we finish above everton? yeah. would we be above them as of now if we had an experienced manager in charge? it's just as likely that we wouldn't imo.
We played really nice football under Roy Evans and never achieved anything

That doesnt mean the same would happen under Brendan but its a cautionary tale none the less

As for a plan, I'm not sure. We look far better going forward than we have for sometime but defensively we dont seem to have any plan whatsoever

The midfield and defensive units are shockingly bad

The "plan" seems too laissez faire to me

In all seriousness, I'm not of the opinion that Brendan is complete useless

I'm just not as convinced as some on here that he is taking us in the right direction

I think we have major major flaws in our make up, and that worries me as there has been little or no sign of those problems being addressed

Maybe Brendan will surprise me this summer though
