The fact that Everton are 5 points ahead of us with a game in hand & a weaker squad, without the injured Fellaini, speaks volumes. A legend was fired last season even tho we had a better season than this. Should our current manager, who is far from a LFC legend, not be treated the same?
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

No not really. Anyone that's refusing to see that we're playing much better football needs shooting. Football was dire under Kenny, it's much more entertaining under Brendan, yes we have problems but we need to strengthen our squad.

That keeper had the game of his life today, without him we could have seen a new premier league record.

Looks like dire football gets you trophies and Europe where as so called good football gets you well ermmmm 7th. Now where is that book on how to play dire football.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

Everton have had the same manager for a lengthy period of time and are building on (relatively) sustained success under a very well drummed in style of play. We're in our first year under a new manager and a new direction. Perhaps we should look at the season on individual merits instead of comparing to those teams around us.

I didn't want Kenny sacked and was one who stood up for him, but if you look at the football being played on the pitch, there are marked improvements. With a little bit of tweaking and some self-belief (that will come with time) as well as adding some quality to the squad, we will reap the benefits.

Would you be happy with short term, limited success or long term, sustained success?

Short term will help the long term. I.e not winning or getting in Europe will not attract quality players. Rodgers is here for another season, well until at least Xmas then if things aren't looking like improving then I think FSG will be looking for another manager. If however as most feel on here that Rodgers will move us forward (no proof yet) then all this chat would have been irrelevant.

It could be argued that a season without the distraction of Europe *may* allow us to throw everything at the league and we can attract the right calibre of player from that.

It just seems that folk aren't happy with Rodgers. Fair enough, it's an opinion that differs to mine, but who do you replace him with and how long do you give the new chap? How much chopping and changing can Liverpool take in such a relatively short period of time?

I find this negative attitude quite insightful ... almost as if we believe we have a right to be up and amongst it and we need to do it now. The figures say we are progressing, the statistics show we are playing some good football, now we just need to address the results.

We have a very young team with little experience of success or overturning a deficit, they need this season to be stronger *next* season and the one after that.

Mate we are playing decent football not good football. Look he is staying for another season that goes without saying, then we will all see who was right and who was wrong. The bit about a season without Europe, is bit defeatist and rodgerist (if there is such a word). The man talks to much,he should be allowing his team to do the talking not gobbing off like he does. I don't really like Rodgers not because he is not a nice man( I don't know him) but because I just don't think he is the right man for Liverpool, but I would love him to prove me wrong by making us better than last season, which ever way you look at, he hasn't. But at the end of next season he will have had 2 years to improve us. Not win the EPL of CL just improve us let's say the dizzy heights of 5th and maybe look interested in cup completions.

I agree, I think he gets his chat on too much, but that's just a sign of the times.

His recent chat about a season without Europe can be taken a multitude of ways (as clearly shown in the Rodgers Thread), you think it's defeatist - I don't. I hope we don't have a dick measuring contest as to who was right and wrong, because we quite clearly both want Liverpool to do well ... like you say, time will tell.

I heard the commentator say on Saturday we could still sneak into Europe via the fair play league - don't know too much about this but if Arsenal qualify in top 4 does it mean we're in?!

These berths are then allocated to the highest placed club in that association's own Fair Play league that has not yet qualified for either the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League.
and have a minimum average score of 8.0.
                          We're at 8.6 atm

I'd take it. Am I right in thinking that would mean a place in the early qualifiers?
