I agree that chopping and changing of defence helps no keeper. Reina was poor for a long while. His shot stopping non existent, regularly beaten at near post. Dont know why fans re-write history like that. He was poor for a long while

How's he doing this season for Napoli?

Like I said, the issue is not Reina over Mig.That was never going to be the choice. The issue is was Mig the best we could have got to replace him, time will tell on that one.

Reina hasn't been great for a long time & we needed better.

I like Mignolet but he has looked very dodgy of late. When it was news that we were bankers to sign Mignolet him someone posted a vid on here of all his saves.. during the couple of mins clip he didn't not catch or hold onto the ball once. On the sunderland forums they said the same thing.. that he doesn't catch/hold onto the ball enough & often appears flappy.

It seems to be just the way he plays. They were also spot on about his distribution, and to be fair it is pretty poor. In a side that is looking to play football across the back line and not hoof it, Mignolet absolutely ****s himself when the balls passed back to him, to be honest all our back line do. We are looking to play a passing game... but do not have the personnel to do it back there.

A lack of confidence/ability in the defence will certainly filter down to the keeper at some stage. Defensively.. we are all over the place. But individually Mignolet has to improve.

Looks like he's doing ok although not played in 4 of the last 5 games

Flapped again another terrible error cost us a goal

              The defence doesn't help though

              Johnson
              Kelly
              Agger
              Toure
              Sakho
              Skrtel
              Enrique
              Cissokho
              Flanagan

Have all been injured at some point this season and we are only just half way through and that is every defender on our books
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Neither helps the other tbf, the injuries and constant changes in defence haven't helped Mig, but then again his errors maybe make the defence nervous and indecisive at times ?

Then again, i'm not sure some of the types of errors he's made could be put down to changes in defence either.

But he's a young keeper too.

Good lord 207 shots faced compared to Reina's 109. Shows how poor our defence is at the moment. Look at Reina's rating.. 6.66.. Thats enough for me to go with Mig!

The 207 shots will have been when playing for Sunderland

The stats are from last season when Mignolet was at Sunderland, and Reina was with us.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I keep banging about it, sorry about that, but you might rephrase that as 'our defending' rather than our defence. Those stats show that the back 4 is being constantly exposed, which shouldn't happen.
                          Are we winning?

                            Will do

Mind you imagine if Reina had faced that many shots. Mignolets stats would still be hugely better.

Reina over Mig or vice versa is not the issue anyway,we were never going to keep Reina cos of his wages so who we bought was critical. Jury will remain out on that one for this season anyway until we can sort out the defence in the summer having hopefully secured 4th but the cheap goals we are losing is making it difficult-not just Mig's fault but he's contributing.
Mignolet has been poor for barely even a month, before that he's been nothing but excellent for us.
Reina had been a ****ing joke for a long time, not just in his last season here. I know a lot of people liked Pepe because he was signed by Rafa, was Spanish and was our keeper during our good spell in the CL but they need to take the nostalgia/rose tinted glasses off. He had been consistently letting in howlers for a long time and had to go.

I have a question for those who think we should have kept Pepe and not signed Mignolet : Do you think we would have more points right now if Reina had been our first choice keeper ??

Whilst he had a dip in form Reina was far from a "****ing joke"

I simply think he and the club needed a change - a new challenge for Reina and a new chance for someone at Liverpool.

Ever since Mig signed theres been absolutely no question that he is a good shot stopper - however he has since the beginning struggled with crosses, something that we put down to nerves. He is still young though, especially for a goalkeeper, and I fully expect him to get better.
