My only nagging doubt about 4th place is that as its basically ours now, that also means that the only way we can lose it is by ****ing it up ourselves - something the past years have shown us to be very capable of. All the statistics and numbers available can't make me shake off the pessimistic nature I have built up over the past years watching Liverpool.

The statistics-heeding realist in me says fourth is ours, and we have a good chance of third or better.
The Liverpool-fan pessimist in me says we'll find a way to **** it up and finish fifth.

my only nagging doubt is spurs getting a lucky win at our place which could happen, but then Sherwood is not doing very well and they would still be effectively 4pts behind and we have a game in hand but we have a harder run in.

under a decent manager they could still have a say, Apart from our game they could feasibly win the rest of there games after this weekend.

But Sherwood is manager there so it shouldnt be an issue

also i am hoping spurs go far in the europa - like all teams they have struggled after the thursday games.....plus i am hoping the further 4th slips away/the closer they get to the final than someone like sherwood may think **** it, lets go balls deep to win the europa - i'm sure he'd prefer to win a trophy over 4th, especially as it looks like he'll get sacked either way.....so having the trophy on his cv would be a decent achievement
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Yeah I think there's a chance he'll do a Rafa and go all out to win the Europa should they get through tonight.

I'll be out of town this weekend and thus will not be able to watch this game. It's basically torture Maybe a blessing in disguise though because I'm really nervous.

This will not be as easy as some people think. It's Old Trafford ffs! Don't be so easily fooled by United's inconsistency this season.

I actually think it might be much easier than most on here think. I really think IF we play to our best this could be another Tottenham away. They are ill equipped to deal with us at our best and their confidence will be so fragile.

By the time we play Spurs we'll be even further ahead. They play Arsenal and Southampton, whereas we play United, Cardiff and Sunderland. We could quite easily find ourselves 12 points ahead going into that match.

I'm also extremely confident we'll absolutely destroy them when we play them, although if we dropped points at home to Sunderland I wouldn't be surprised either.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

if we win sunday - we'd be 14 pts ahead of United, with 9 games remaining....

if united somehow won 9 games on the trot....that would give them 75 points.

which would mean we would only need to win 4 for more games and a draw to guarantee finishing above them

And i can't see anyway that United would win 9 on the trot!

If spurs lose on sunday and lost to us - they would have to win their other 7 games to get to 74 points.

Again couldn't see them doing that and four wins for us would guarentee 4th regardless.

So it does look very good for us....certainly the spurs and united games - two wins ends it. A couple results going our way and we could have 4th sealed by the end of the month
Especially as United have City and Everton to play, who i think will beat them. To be honest though, i think i'll want UTD to win those games- as long as we win at the weekend!

City still have United, Arsenal and us to play
Chelsea have Arsenal and us (easiest of the top 3)
We have United, City, Spurs and Chelsea (most difficult run in).

If we beat united, city and chelsea- with a bit of luck from the above fixtures, we really could be champions- excluding any **** ups from us. Squeeky bum time

Isn't this also the season where you get much more cash for your finish place?
It could really help us out if we can get 3rd place with FFP

do you mean increased prem payments? the season after next is when the the CL money is ramped up and the % you get is largely based on the previous league position

I thought it was prem payments this year was huge? Didn't know about the CL payments being increased either

We will have been in TV a hell of a lot more than usual too this season so presumably that means a bigger share of TV money too.
