But that's looked a lot more likely since Borrell etc. came on board and we have plenty more of our young players making appearances than before.

You should read back through some of teh previous reserve threads.

Like someone said above, look at the likes of Southampton, they've got some promising youngsters playing/knocking at the door

There appears to be no plan at the club as to what to do with these kids when we get them or how to help them kick on to the next level. 15 years odd is a long time to wait in which no youth player has established themselves in the first team, especially when millions have been pumped into the set up
Would them same players be getting the same game time here? There is a lot less pressure at Southampton and obviously a weaker first team so of course it's easier for younger players to break through and make a good impression.

Look at what happens here when we have a decent young player. They have few decent reserve games and they are hyped as the new Maradona (I'm as guilty of this as anybody). Everybody cries that they should be playing for teh first team. They eventually get their first team shot and despite how well they play initially, once they show a drop in form they are written off by the fans and declared not good enough. I doubt this would happen at Southampton. If Southampton had Sterling, Suso, Teixeria, Ibe, Wisdom, Mclaughlin, and Ngoo () on their books, they'd probably be getting a lot more PL experience and we'd be saying how great they are.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

City are under massive pressure to bring talent through but no amount of great youth coaches will allow a rookie 18 year old chances to play in their very expensive first team.

Everytime they have a problem they wont look to the academy but to the next transfer window. What's the point in even having an academy.

I am surprised by the news today because my, very unscientific, perception is that the quality of young players at the club as definitely improved over the past 4 years.

But you cant argue with the fact that no one has broken though since Gerrard all those years ago.

To me the very obvious problem is the massive step up from the U21/ Ressies into the Premier League. For a team that is looking to challenge at the top of the Premier League there is absolutely no way a player can come from the the youth system and step into the first team unless they are of the likes of Fabregas / Rooney and there arent many of them.

Barca and Real have their B teams and it is about time the top clubs in this country were allowed to implement something similar. There is no point sending our top young talent out to some Championship / League 1 team, where the football is of alehouse variety and the young skillfull players get dropped for the big physical units as soon as the pressure comes on.

BR asked about academy changes, is it an area he wants to get involved in more? "I've been heavily involved at the academy."

I agree that the youth set up hasnt been producing first team talent. But I think some of the players who have come through in the last 18 months are capable of it. Wisdom for sure and Sterling too from what I have seen.
I wouldn't really say we can be credited with bringing Wisdom (Bradford) Ibe (Charlton & Wycombe) and Sterling (QPR) through OUR Youth Academy system though..

Martin Kelly signed when he was 7 and came through the system at a very early age but we need to continue producing talent along the lines of
                      Carragher, Owen, Gerrard, McManaman etc

Surely the new Academy Director is already with us in Neil Critchley.

The situation in our youth set up is we seem to have our fair share of talented lads all the way through the age groups but when they hit 18+ they stall in their development so we end up buying lads in like Ilori (for example)

We seem to be creating a link with Derby which is great as McLaren is an excellent coach, we'll also redevelop links with Crewe through NC.

What we need to do is wait 2-3 years and see what Wisdom/Sterling/Suso etc... are like as 20-21 year olds with an extra 75 games under their belts.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
