The fact we are back in the CL also improves the players we can bring in.

This summer is absolutely huge, we get it right and we won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
The times they are a changin'.

Champions League football will help attract big stars to Liverpool, says Reds' Managing Director Ian Ayre

Ian Ayre has predicted Liverpool will compete for a better standard of player this summer now they can guarantee Champions League football.

While Liverpool have three games to clinch their first league title since 1990, there is delight within Anfield that manager Brendan Rodgers has already secured the prime objective for the campaign, which was returning to Europe’s elite competition.

Given they can finish no lower than third, Liverpool will go straight into the group stages and that alone means the club will have its revenues boosted by £20million.

Managing Director Ian Ayre believes Liverpool will be in the hunt for some of the game's biggest names this summer

Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group will back Rodgers this summer in the transfer market and he could have more than £50million to reinforce his squad spend when the window opens.

They are already scouring Europe for targets, with Dnipro’s highly-rated winger Yevhen Konoplyanka - whom they failed to land in January - still well regarded; Ayre believes it is that level of quality Liverpool will be competing for.

‘It has always been tougher in the transfer market when you are not competing at the highest level,’ said Ayre. ‘We had the issue with Luis (Suarez) last summer because he wanted to play in the best games against the best players.

‘That is always a factor. We have always been fortunate to be able to bring great players here despite that but there is no question it (the Champions League) opens up a few doors for us and makes it a little bit easier.

‘There is no question we always expected that the squad we need for next season will be very different to the squad that we have needed for this year when we were not playing in Europe.’

Liverpool have not been involved in the Champions League since 2009. They failed to progress out of the group stages that season, losing to Fiorentina and Lyon, but Ayre is relishing the opportunities that await next year.

‘What we achieved on Sunday was massive,’ said Ayre. ‘This isn’t just about getting in the qualifiers.

We are guaranteed Champions League football. It is an unbelievable achievement from where we were.

‘It is what we set out for but if you were taking bets at the start of the season, you would have said fourth place would be a great achievement. Now we are guaranteed third and we are determined to push on.’

It's like being in an important interview for an amazing job you have a good chance of getting but knowing you're 100% getting laid next week

Not a lot to be scared of is there

Obviously teams will strengthen but if we play like we have this season there is no-one to fear.

not sure how any of you have enough time to worry about the ****ing champions league right now. its the league or nothing. if we don't win the league now, I'm not sure the prospect of playing in the champions league will be much consolation if I'm honest.

So I guess we need a strong showing this year then, or will will stick in Pot 3 for the next season.
