LFC have introduced a new academy pay policy for players up to and including 17 years old - 40k per annum max but with bonuses for appearances in U23 (if U18 player presumably), senior squad and loans. Fewer youth players to be bought in with emphasis on quality and no new players to be signed for senior squad unless clearly better than existing youth players - in other words no more cheap random punts and loans - players like Luis Alberto I suppose.
“I've always been at clubs for the long-term so when I see a 16-year-old player who is good, I can always wait for him,” said Klopp.
“I can promise that before we sign a player who isn't a lot better than what we already have, we will always use our own boys. That's how the future should be, even in the crazy football transfer world. We want to be this special club.
“That's why I am really interested in the talent groups and all these boys. We have created a situation where all these boys see a real perspective. That's very important. They need to know that there is a way through.”
I don't actually think it is a particularly huge wage in footballing terms. 7 year ago I was working with a lad who was getting paid £300 per appearance running out for Telford in the Conference.
Obviously this is a fixed wage of £800 a week but that is max and he was by no means the best player in the team. Potential for players to be snaffled up by better playing cubs for the sake of £500 a week
