He's been a disastrous signing. I was in favour of us signing him but I was completely wrong.

It was quite damning alright. Although they were lauding over him at the start of the season when we signed him.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostThat Lovren video from Carragher and then Neville's analysis on our defence last season is remarkable stuff. No wonder we're atrocious at the back.

There's a strong case to make that he's the worst centre-half we've had on our books in my living memory. I certainly can't think of anyone who's been consistently as bad as he's been. Hell, even Biscan out of position was a better bet.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Piechnik was dire but it was a long time ago now. Certainly can't remember a worse one in the last decade or so. Pellegrino was nowhere near this bad. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

He may well be Beckenbauer with the ball at his feet (he's not though is he) all we will remember him for so far is pretty much every CF he plays against making him look awkward. He looked just as short of confidence, awareness and defensive ability last night against Bournemouth!
It is a confidence and training thing. Based on Carra and Gary Nevilles praise of him last season (for certain Brendan watched this) there is a good player in there somewhere!!! We are in the process of ruining him for ever. We so badly need a coach or player to organise us defensively and not acknowledging or acting on this really is an achilles heel for Brendan.Modifying post.

It's what I'm hoping. If Brendan can admit his failing in this area and get a decent coach in, we could see some return in investment; as it is he's a liability.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostIt is a confidence and training thing. The sign of a good manager, in football or just general work, is when they admit their failings and get people in to support their weaknesses and/or learn from their mistakes and get support. This is Brendan's test, and he has yet to face up to it.

If you watch the latest video from Carragher and Neville, the very same game last season between Southampton and Man Utd at Old Trafford which they used to praise Lovren, they showed he's making the same mistakes in that game as he is here. Basically, his positional awareness is nowhere to be found, especially in relation to the left back. Johnson's positioning looked pretty good in the clips used.
