For me those little digs count as being a negative. It's like when Rafa said 'some players will play when they have a little knock and others won't' effectively saying that Aquilani was a pussy. It didn't take a genius to work that one out. I just think it's probably best when managers avoid that kind of comment to the media as I presume it's generally unproductive on the whole. Given I'm not a football manager I can't say for sure, but I find it difficult how it would work in most cases (other than potentially firing a player up to change habits occasionally, but I believe alienations is probably more realistic)

Generally when he says a bad thing though, it's after he's brought them into the side. He should have handled Mario better. But tbh, Mario has been loved and had the arm round the shoulder and it didn't work.Originally posted by Zapater View PostFor me those little digs count as being a negative. Personally I thought he was at his best yesterdayOriginally posted by McDermotX View PostIn the spirit of player thread-bumping, I'd just like to say he was rubbish again today.
No decent Kinder egg toys or nothing.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

so then, whats next for lovren. will he be welcomed back into the 'group' for the bolton game.
could he do a job as DM?
he likes to step out [part of his issue in defence] he can tackle, passes well and can carry it forward too.
maybe try him there to give lucas some rest. last 30 mins when we are post the post maybe?
i cant see us selling him, and dont know if he will steady himself as a CB.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

For me, he's a bit of a jack of all trades. Currently our blend of CBs is about right: 2 CB that are good on the ball flanking a physical 'stopper' if you like. It was great watching Sakho and Can initiating breaks with good passing against Chelsea. Tbh, Lovren is none of these things - he's okayish on the ball and I guess fairly physical - so he has no outstanding attributes. I guess he could perhaps cover for Can if he replaced Lucas for a game or so - or he could replace Sakho for a game against a weaker team. But atm any way in which he is fitted in to the team just weakens it so it'll be interesting to see what Rodgers does with him.Last edited by baronvonskidmark; 22-01-15, 11:38 AM.

Can isn't strictly a DM though is he, he's been played as a CB by previous clubs too. FWIW, I think he looks far too good going forward to be in defence but he's best employed there currentlyOriginally posted by Kenneth View PostIf we start a game with a DM playing CB and a CB playing DM then there's something pretty wrong with our set up.

Like a lot of our struggling players, now we've got a settled formation that seems to suit us, I think Lovren would be fine in the back 3. Nobody deserves to be dropped for him though. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Quite telling tonight that when Sakho went off Rodgers used Johnson a right back by trade over Lovren in his natural position. I personally hope I never see Lovren ever again in a Liverpool shirt, even the spectre of the horrible johnson playing out of position seems a better alternative.
I don't think there is anyway back for him, blame the system we play etc but nothing excuses the catalogue of defensive calamities and misplaced passes this baffoon is responsible forKurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08
