I'd be willing to give it another go. Here's why.
Teams will press us like crazy for the first 45 and they generally then tire out. Let someone younger take the brunt of it in front of the back 4, someone with a bit more mobility and ability to shake off some challenges. Should generally mean Gerrard gets more space and able to do his thing.
Come the second half, teams drop the high intensity through tiredness and press far less. At this point bring Stevie in and allow to us take advantage of this. Should work well.
The biggest issue we have at present is dealing with a teams first half press. Now ideally our players would be more on it and know what each others doing, thus allowing us to pass faster and crisper and therefore negate the effect of a high press. Generally come Xmas we'll likely be able to deal much better, and as I've alluded too already in this thread, the pace of Sturridge will also help. Until then, we need a solution. I think Rodgers understands this and is desperate to find a solution.
But for all mine and other posters criticisms, the issue v QPR was that we had nobody in the team who could sit in front of the back 4 and replicate what Gerrard does, take the ball and get us moving up the pitch. And for all the praise Emre Can received on Twitter prior to the QPR game, how he's a DM and much better than Gerrard - He was worse on the ball, but also worse off the ball and hardly had a kick.
So we do a full circle - is it that Gerrard isn't good enough, or is it that the system is failing?
