Maybe its just me but I thought he was culpable for their goal

Why was he stepping out like that???

****ing terrible as well. He was having delusions of grandeur on Saturday, moving forward with the ball and trying to spray it around like he is Gerrard or something. FFS just concentrate on your job you dopey cunt.

Looking at this thread & on twitter you're not the only one, so I'm guessing that its me in the wrong!

I don't specifically remember him making an error for the goal, but I'll not defend him as I don't remember it all & only watched it once.

In all honesty I've yet to fall either way on judging Lovren as I always give players a season unless they're total ****e. I've seen bits in him to suggest he can do the job, but I'll agree with those who've said he's made some basic errors.

Clearly if we're spending £20m it should be on a finished article. Especially when we already have a young LCB in Sakho who is rough around the edges but has potential. I don't see many differences in the two tbh.

Personally I'd have begged Agger to stay to rotate with Sakho and brought in a player to compete with Skrtel at RCB. If Agger wanted out I'd have kept Illori.

But being where we are now, I'd stick with Lovren and see what happens. IMO he's been making less mistakes & has looked better. But he's going to have to put in a lot of solid displays to win me and others over.
            Forwards.......

Have to say, I think he's a good passer and good on the ball. His long passing is normally decent. I just think on Saturday everyone was rushed and trying to force it too much. Frustration more than anything.

He should be looking to move the ball into the midfielders though rather than lumping it long to a striker whose movement is basically non-existant. Back to basics please.

He and the others did and they just continually passed it straight back. In the end they went for balls over the top as our midfield stayed static and didn't lose the Newcastle markers.

True that is. Does not disguise teh fact he has been absolute turd (aside from his debut!). A complete and utter waste of £20m as things stand.

Just before the ball is played across the six yard box, Lovren steps out of the line, the ball is then played behind him across the box, Moreno does whatever he was attempting and the lad from Newcastle scored

Its ifs buts and maybes but IF Lovren had held his line then they probably wouldnt have scored because I think Moreno is surprised / wrongfooted by Lovren stepping out

I am sure someone more technical will find the relevant clip

This angle doesnt quite show him stepping out but it shows you how far out of the line he ended up

Could have been worse - could have spent £32m on Mangala who has looked like dog ****. Demichelis light years better than him

I like Lovren and he will be ace once they get the details sorted. Nothing good in defence will happen until we sort out the engine room. Newcastle goal showed that clearly. We have a HM who is more or less just running after the ball. No structure, no sense of purpose and no direction. A disaster when we are off the ball.

Any decent HM would have closed that down, been closer to the man, blocked the pass, given him less time.

I have no ****ing idea what he is doing or even covering in that situation.

Goatboy and Muddled - feel free to step in

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

Yeah he ****ed right up stopping the shot from getting off and making Moreno forget how to use his right foot.

You will only ever see him as the reason why the defence is all over the place, nothing to do with the individual mistakes or the lack of organisation across the back 5.

Back on topic Lovren has been **** so far.
