Exactly, this calamity strewn turdfest we see week in week out from Lovren is the norm.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostAlthough by many accounts he was dreadful the previous season with Lyon.
His first 6 months at Southampton was essentially like a Voronin pre season, when people convinced themselves that he wasn't quite a **** as suspected, sadly he's worse than we could ever have imagined and we paid £20m for this baffoon.
I don't think I've ever seen a defender make so many horrendous mistakes with such regular occurrence.Kurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

So Southampton scout him at Lyon. Despite him being **** as is so widely accepted by our French experts on here, they pay a club record for a defender to acquire his services. Despite being ****, he has a great season for them.
It all makes sense...If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Yep, so **** that Pochettinho (also an international centre back) bought him.Originally posted by RedReet View PostSo Southampton scout him at Lyon. Do people really think a player is scouted once?
We'd have watched him in France, we'd have watched him at least a dozen times last season before signing him, we'd have watched Lovren in home PL games, away PL games, internationals, against different types of sides and strikers.
He hasn't done well enough this season, no one is arguing with that but (imo) his biggest problem is trying to justify his fee, knowing he didn't get off to a great start and the harder he tries the worse it gets.
I'd be surprised if we sold him unless someone offered us very good money, I'd also be surprised if he isn't a vastly improved footballer for us next season. The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

His latest article links Coutinho with Man City but says that Coutinho needs to improve his productivity.........Originally posted by Gazzla View PostThe King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

I’ll ignore the fact that it was written retrospectively in November, once the knives were already being sharpened for Lovren. I never heard these Lyon days being mention as an issue when we were linked last year.
So ¾’s of the article is focusing on his first year at Lyon. They mention that he was a young CB, who didn’t understand the language, who was playing out of position, but then compare him to attacking players of the same age. Yes, that’s fair.
They then gloss over the next few year, during which Lyon incidentally felt the need to tie him down to a new long term contract, to conclude with his final season. Good stuff, I’ll no doubt read something insightful here to find out why Southampton felt the need to splash the cash on him. Oh no, I find out he was sent off 3 times, ie. he must be ****.
I’ll not pretend to have watched Lyon or have known much about Lovren before he joined Southampton. He could well have been **** for them, I don’t know. What I do know is there was no mention of this ****ness before he started playing poorly for us, yet now it’s taken as gospel by some. Yes people can point to articles like this, and even if I could have taken it more seriously, I can’t help but wonder what a journo’s take would be on Sakho’s performances for us, as judging by what I read in the papers, it wouldn’t be too complementary either. If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

They were mentioned by quite a few people when he was linked so this isn't revisionism on anyone's part.Originally posted by RedReet View PostHaha, am I supposed to take that serious?

There were a number of people who had severe reservations about him before he joined, the stat about him misplacing more passes in his own half than any other player in the Premiership was bandied about and we can certainly witness that with our own eyes.
I'm failing to see what he is actually good at? I'd bin him off at the first opportunityKurtangled in the McFadden thread 16/01/08

Before Southampton bought him he was linked to us and that was the first time I remember reading, on here, about the Lyon fan's being well happy to be rid of him. It was mentioned at the time. Not that it matters. His performances for us have been brutal and if he was sold in the summer he could have no complaints, that's all that matters now.Originally posted by RedReet View Post

It doesn't matter what he was like before. Fact of the matter is he's the worst defender I have ever seen play for Liverpool - I genuinely can't think of any player who is as hapless and hopeless as Lovren. It may be confidence, it may be out of sorts with his past, whatever. It doesn't matter. He's not a Liverpool player and should only ever be used as a last resort, until we can either get rid of him at a likely massive loss, or until his contract winds down.
There is no way that any of the defenders that were sent out on loan would have been as bad as him.

I was one of the people who had reservations, but I can’t remember too much uproar when we were linked. I had a quick look over some old posts and the only one to mention Lyon when we were linked was G. He mentioned about the Lyon fans, but nobody took heed, agreed or disagreed. From memory, the next I can remember it mentioned was when Shaggy said something during the season, since then people who were normally quiet, were now experts on Lyon.
This is the first I’ve heard of this ‘bandied about’ passing stat too, although I did notice in my quick research that it was actually you who wrote about reading it (no link) and again nobody took notice or confirmed its validity.
Anyway, I don’t know why I’m bothering, it‘s the Internet, what do I expect…If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
